From Yahoo groups/scootertow
Scootertow,
Like anything, it's obvious some of us pick up operating the scooter faster
than others. Hand, eye, and foot coordination. I'm still learning, for sure.
While re-reading, the topic became a bit confusing on what is "approved" use
of scootertow/stationary winch. And with risk "mitigation" being the buzword of
the day....... risk management no longer acceptable?
Stuart said:
"Scooter tows are a fantastic tool for traing paraglider pilots on the art of
takeoffs and landings."
My question: Paragliders only? Is USHPA tech clinic for PG only?
..................
John urged us all to become USHPA tow tech certified, as I see he is, as P2.
In his account of the tow tech clinic John said:
"I took part in a tow tech clinic last weekend and it was quite an eye
opener....there were times when we were paying out with the brakes on a
stationary tow system!"
Then Stuart said:
"The lines were made to be pulled in under tension,"
And Dave says:
"I completely agree with Stuart on these points."
As a novice/uncertified tow operator, I can't see any difference IF the
scooter/stationary winch is paying OUT, no throttle with a bit of brake, line
under the bar, does it matter if the glider is going forward, up, or down wind.
And Stuart also says:
"Let's stick to sane activities, shall we."
So my other question: Are John's new skills,"paying out with the brakes on"
approved USHPA tow tech clinic agenda?
Thanks,
Sam
