Is there a "Single Surface Flex Wing" , cross country record, or endurance record? Are they even sold today ? "Performance", has driven the market of course, and why not. But at great sacrifice to journeyman , "pocket books", and certain freedoms, and proper , "Lengthy" , training periods for "different lifetime, recreational ratings", and professional ratings also. Total revamp, and "Hard" work.
HangGliding should adopt/adapt, the (120+years proven), "STUDENT PILOT" and the "PRIVATE PILOT", And the "SOLO PILOT", Training systems and "Lifetime" ratings systems, which not only teach "airmanship", but Life skills.
Sometimes you gotta' push the stick forward while you're lookn' at the ground

Hello Craig,

Yes i think the single surface record was set, by Davis Straub, don't say that too loud, out of Zapata, Tx,~200mi south of the take off Sebastien's launch, to Eagle Pass Tx. 2008? 210mi on a Falcon .

I was chatting with Sebastien earlier today and learned his flight was only 311mi., some shorter than I first reported. That original info came from one of the other PG sites. Still a decent flight.

Hopefully the dry line will set up again and produce some cloud streets for another attempt.

Yes, on life skills.

Thanks for your comments

Hawks,

And who shows up to chase world records in SW Texas?

An old friend, from when we were Torrey rats :) '76 , and world record holder for many ~10 years!

Hint: 311mi

Hint #2: That shaggy one on the right is me. No haircut since before covid.

What a surprise! This really made my day

Let me guess ...

From your hint, I did some searching for Larry Tudor and I found this photo at Point of the Mountain:

Let's compare that to my good friend Sam's picture:

Yes ! :salute: :salute: :salute:

What a surprise it was ! Larry was with a couple of others trying to set PG records.

We all hiked up Mt Buz. Cedar and Marcos foot launched for a late afternoon ridge lift flight.

Cedar made it back to the airport easy enough. Marcos, eventhough on a very small wing, had a soaring flight and made it out to the highway for retrieve.

While we were on the hill members of the Brazil PG team passed overhead on a ~250mi. pay out tow launch flight originating ~200mi South in Hebronville.

After we met Cedar at the 49R, Larry and the guys drove back South to Hebronville ready for another try.

The reunion was too short. I hope they make it up here again, and beyond.
