In the early days of this forum we were over-run by automated spammers signing up and posting all kinds of garbage all over the forum. Eventually I figured out how to set up the forum to ask some random questions as a first line of defense. That worked for about 95% of the spammers. But to catch the last few percent, I also decided that all new users (who got past the questions) would be limited to posting in the "New Users Forum" until they replied to a personal email message that I sent to their registration email address.
On February 11th, I sent this email message to Mike Burns:
Hello Mike!!
Thanks for signing up to the US Hawks forum!!
Upon signing up, you should be able to post immediately to the
"New Users Forum" under the "Free Speech Zone". We limit new
members to that area as a compromise between spam reduction
and allowing people to speak as soon as they sign up.
In order to post to the rest of the forum (which I hope you will do),
I just need some confidence that you're a real person with some level
of interest in hang gliding (or even paragliding as it relates to hang
gliding). So if you just write back with almost any reasonable
response, I'll be happy to enable your extended posting.
Again, welcome to the US Hawks Forum!!
Sincerely,
Bob Kuczewski
I haven't heard back from him yet, and so he's still limited to the New Users Forum.
