Some thoughts:
1. Shown are not optimized for hang gliding.
2. Rapid deflation may be important.
3. Accidental inflation needs to be addressed.
4. HG: resultant drag might be wanted in some scenarios.

One aim of Safe-Splat is to have wing running without whacks, broken arms, broken necks, disastrous stops.
The is video of wing-running hints at one space where Safe-Splat mitigation could play to benefit.
His hesitations and sudden ground-gouging stops are close to real serious tissue injury.

Some scenes show an early Dockweiler with concrete bike path at the dune foot. Today the bike path is up top behind launch.

I think this person needs an instructor more than a safe-splat device!!!!

He (or she?) tried to jump into the glider before it was flying.

This reminds me that I've been letting the US Hawks On-Line Training Manual fall behind schedule. :(

Have  you  given any more thought to getting an Instructor rating.

I think you said Zippy had encouraged you, also.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

Hey Sam ... that's some clever usage of the   nominate   feature.    :srofl:

It's something that I'd really like to do, and Zippy would be a great person to learn from. But right now I'm up to my eyeballs at my new job. In fact, I just got back from a week-long trip to Pittsburg for our project.

How about you? There are far fewer instructors in your neck of the woods than out here. I think you'd make a fine instructor!!

You might want to convert "instructor" to "coach" and coach people to do what they want to do, what they choose to do, etc. ... at their own 100% responsibility.

Coach: What do you want to do, Coachee?
Coachee: === Fly?
Coach:     Great!    
Coach: How do you wish to fly?
Coachee: === With the use of a wing?
Coach: How do you want to be connected to the wing?
Coachee: === By a kite line.
Coach: How do you want to be connected to the kite line?
Coachee: === With a harness like I see over there.
Coach: When will you practice hanging in the harness?
Coach: Do you have someplace where you may practice hanging from the harness?
Coach: Do you intend an airframed wing or a canopy wing?
Coach: What will you study about the history of hang gliding before your next coaching session?
Coach: Will you be logging your learning actions in a bound notebook or/and on a web page where you may receive feedback from the hang gliding community; I hear there is space for a blog in USHAWKS.org where this kind of growth diary and feedback may occur.

Some young birds on their first flights will have splat landing. Do you want to study the incidents in hang gliding that have resulted in injury? How do you intend to stay safe yourself and also not injure others or hurt others' property? Do you want put your answers into your blog as your advance your adventure?
Coach: How will you know your wing is fit for use?
Coach: How will you know that your attitude will bring success for what you want to do?
Coach: How will you know that your body will be able to do what you will want it to do?
Coach: What do you want to show me for my commentary? What will you do with my comments? Will you treat my comments as something to be checked? Or will you treat my comments as infallible extensions of absolute truth?
Coach: Have you studied the take-off methods of various birds? There are some neat videos related to such. Will you be also studying the videos of hang glider pilots launching?
Coach: How many ways of launching a hang glider are in your view now?
Coach: Have you made some model gliders and played with their design? Have you played with tailed model gliders and flying-wing gliders? Have you played with model kite hang gliders with payload hung by a short kite line? When you do such play, do any of the models crash, spin, tumble, flip, roll, stall, recover, etc.? Have you vicariously seen yourself be the payload of your models? Would you like to avoid injurious crashing, injuring landing experiences when you fly a hang glider?
Coach: What is whacking? Did you know that a relatively simple whack has brought on broken necks? How are you going to avoid whacks?
Coach: Do you hold me responsible for your knowing, actions, understanding, attitudes, decisions, management, operations, wing fitness, personal fitness, skills, or abilities? Or do you take 100% responsibility for your own aspects? Do you agree that I, as coach, leave you to know yourself and certify yourself for the act of flying a hang glider?
Coach: Do you think a good coach's coaching could be worth supporting by payments? How much would you be willing to pay for a good hang glider coach? What would good hang gliding coaching be worth to you?
Coach: What does "third-party" insurance cover and not cover?
Coach: Do you have insurance to cover your own body in case you get injured flying a hang glider? Does your policy exclude hang gliding? Does having insurance affect how well you will stay prepared for what you intend doing?
Coach: Could an expert be fully prepared yesterday, but have something essential missing at the time of action in the present moment of today's hang gliding action? When something important is missing for a safe flight, what do you intend doing when deciding to fly or not? What is risk management?
Coach: Do you intend to remain open to reflections by others who observe your hang gliding actions?
    Look for value that may be in part of what is presented to you?
