So tell us your story...

Ok. In a nutshell and keeping in mind the title of the topic in question.

“What can be learned from this "scooter" towing accident?”

A poster said…

“If you release while under load, the chances of the rope grabbing the tow ring are substantial”.

Regardless of the tow method I found this an uncomfortable statement, and said so.

Another poster suggested the topic be broadened in line with topic title, and yet another brought up the subject of the alternative Koch type setup, as used for ground towing in other parts of the world.

I have some experience with ground towing and offered my opinion of the Koch type setup listing both the good AND BAD attributes of such a system.
I then invited others to add to this list and do the same for a typical US ground tow system hoping for nothing more than an exchange of information.

It all went steadily down hill with some very transparent tactics used to both shut me up and avoid the subject.

I said “I believe this fatality was avoidable and would not have happened in the UK” and I am sure I can backup everything I posted.

Gosh, me, never had so much as a parking ticket, responsible for a topic shut down (at least I think it was me).
One very dead pilot and an exchange of information not deemed worthy.
This is nothing less than despicable.

Looking forward to an exchange of information here.

Hi Mike,

I just quickly browsed those 15 pages from the Oz Report, and I didn't happen to see your name there. Do you use a different screen name on the Oz Forum? I apologize in advance if I just missed it.

By the way Tad, I noticed Helen's surprise that you hadn't chimed in yet on that topic. She wrote:

Helen on Fri, Feb 4 2011, 11:52:41 pm wrote:Wow, 12 pages… WITHOUT Tad! ;)

Just kidding, Tad et al :D :D :D .

Davis responded:

Tad was kicked off the site long ago.

Maybe she didn't know that you had been banned!!

That brings up a good point ... when forum moderators ban people, they generally do it fairly quietly, so the banned members just seem to disappear. I suspect most people don't even know who has been banned and who just stopped posting. At the risk of a Goodwin violation, it reminds me of Nazi Germany (and other totalitarian regimes) where people just "disappeared" without a trace. No muss, no fuss.

So I'm going to start a topic here called "Banned of Brothers" where we can list all the people who've been banned from various forums. It would also be a good place to discuss moderation on the US Hawks forum.

Thanks Warren. I'll read it again with that information.

I'm glad to have you here!!

By the way, I've started a topic ("Banned of Brothers") listing people who've been banned from various forums. I don't know your status on all the other forums, so please post a list to that topic and I'll update it.

Well I posted an answer for a question to Mike, thinking of the time difference and then I saw that Mike was logged on, probably penning the answer at the same time. I guess it's still early evening over there... oops..
Didn't mean to step on any toes.

Very glad to make your aquaintance, Mike!
I'm especially looking forward to learning all I can about static towng.

I'm still making my way through the 11 pages, and I found this post from Mike on page 12:

Pudpud wrote:"What about listing the favourable attributes of these other systems then and just as importantly anything you think is a disadvantage."

That's exactly what I'd like to see. I'd like to see an objective analysis of the various types of towing and releases. It might even include a table of systems and their attributes (both positive and negative). Maybe we could work something like that up here. What do you think Tad?

P.S. with a little more reading:

Pudpud wrote:... it would be very useful if you could summarise here the good and bad attributes of the release you mention as a direct comparison to the points I have listed for a Koch type (plus any more you can think of). Overall this should not be a too much of a list but it would allow for a direct comparison between the two system.

Great minds ...

OK, I read all 15 pages, and I have no idea why Davis would have locked that topic.

In my opinion, people should be able to discuss and argue any topic for as long as they like. I haven't noticed any dip in the world's supply of unused bytes, and I think a discussion like that was valuable. It should have been allowed to continue. Even if some people were tired of it, that doesn't mean that everyone was. Why should the short attention spans and/or closed minds of one group (or person) set the limits for everyone else?

Mike, if you want to resume that discussion here, please feel free to open a new topic and advertise it with a post to the Oz Report. Here's a suggested wording, but it's up to you:

Continuation: What can be learned from this "scooter" towing accident?

For anyone interested in continuing the discussion from the scooter towing accident, please visit the US Hawks forum at:

USHawks.org

Thanks.

That's the great thing about competition. If Davis wants to lock topics for his own reasons, then there are alternatives. My guess is that he'll think twice about prematurely locking topics if you were to make a post like that. ;)

It's gonna take me forever to properly respond to this discussion. And the longer it takes the more the traffic builds up so the longer it's gonna take. And that's absolutely wonderful - the other extreme being Davis, where there's no discussion at all 'cause he says so - but, gawd, what a workload.

Hopefully at some point you guys will need to eat or sleep and I won't.

In the meantime...

We gotta deal with that one pretty soon. It had a direct bearing on Shane getting killed.

Sorry. It's been a little dead around here, and I'm doing my best to encourage some discussion.

I read that topic, and I guess this is when you joined the "Banned of Brothers" on the Oz report:

Tad is gone.

I didn't see any explanation, and I didn't really see anything that justified the ban.
