Preview: BIG BLUE SKY
I got a Torrey Hawks video in the mail last week.
It was from Greg Launt in Virginia.
Bob Kuczewski's name is on the first page.
He is a paraglider pilot in our SOAR BIG WALKER CLUB.
Located in southwest VA, we have a site on a 100 mile ridge.
Greg is also a H4 pilot.
We have about 35 members.
And I am mailing this to another pilot.
And we will past it around until our members have all had a chance to see it.
Then we will send it on, probably up towards Ellenville to those pilots
I recall all those early days as I was flying in 1971 myself.
And my 1st mountain flight was in my own design and homebuilt 18 foot standard
That took place July 17th, 1973.
Before that I was hill flying and on the dunes off the NC coast and along side of me
was Dr FM Rogallo with his wind meter
I guess I could write a book about it too.
And I have an hour of home movies of the arly flights too.
My favorite is my inflight movie at Grandfather Mtn in Linville, NC.
It's my Order of the Raven ( #160) a one hour requirement to get a limited edition print
by Ray Harm ( wild life artist who started the serial numbered concept of the limited edition prints )
Only 200 ever made and it took 7 years to get them handed out too.
Grandfather Mountain was home of the US Nationals.

WOW TOMMY !!!

I thought that DVD had gotten lost!!!

It's been several years now since I started that sign-up sheet and began passing it around among the Torrey Hawks members!!! The plan was for each person to watch it, post their comments, and then pass it on. But I hadn't heard anything about it for a long time, so I figured it had just gotten lost somewhere.

I'm glad to see that it's gone coast to coast!!      :thumbup: :lol: :clap:

So if you don't mind, please add your name to the list, and post your comments here before passing it along. Also, if you don't mind, please mention who's getting it next and ask them to do the same so we don't lose track of it again. I don't remember what web site was on the original instructions (it might have been before the US Hawks existed). So if you don't mind, please make a note in the sign up sheet to direct people to the US Hawks Forum ( http://ushawks.org/forum ) to post their comments.

As for the movie itself, I think it's fantastic. I bought my first copy during a USHPA Board meeting and I watched it about 3 times back to back in the hotel room that night. I ended up buying 4 more copies (mostly from USHPA) and sharing them with people who I thought would appreciate them (including this one).

Also, if any of you like the movie, please consider buying a copy from Bill Liscomb to support his work.      :thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup:

Single-skin has top surface and bottom surface

Postby JoeF » Wed Jun 26, 2013 11:43 am

Related to this discussion are the following realms:
== David Barish's Glide Wing single-layer. Single-skin.
== Rogallo's single-layer limp kites and their strategic stiffening. Single-skin.post HERE.
== NPWs with terra-bound anchors or moving anchors or free-falling anchors (gliding kites, gliding parachutes, canopy hang gliders). Single-skin.
== Pere Casellas and the BarretinaHyperLite simple surface kites and PGs HERE. Single-skin.
== PlaySail. Single-skin.
== Mothra arch kites Single-skin. HERE. and EneryKiteSystemHere
== Non-rotating arch ribbon kites Single-skin.
== Some spider webs . Single-skin.
== David Culp's OutLeader with three bridle lines. Single-skin. HERE
== Tarp flying ... single skin HERE
== Ozone's single-skin HERE
== FlySurfer single-skin

Single-skin development is not a done-deal. Texture, turbulators, shaping, bridling, material choices, chordwise shaping, spanwise shaping, etc. form an exciting development era.. From flags to just before double-layering Jalbert is a spectrum of play that will keep many exploring yet for some time to come.

CONSIDER?
Explore ciliated fuzz bottom-surface texture for single-skin wings. What will the air entrainment do to performance, handling, depowering, re-powering, etc.? Strategic ciliation? Specialized patterns of ciliation? Length and design of the hairs? Reports are invited.
