Vintage glider fly-in at Crestline

Saturday marked the vintage glider fly in at Andy Jackson Airpark, there were between 10 and maybe 15 vintage gliders, some of which were flown off not only the bunny hill but off of the 350 Embree Launch (Big O Loop). Much fun was had by all, including of which was a great BBQ by Rebar Dan and family.

In addition to the vintage gliders, a pretty good array of modern gliders were launched off Crestline as well as a handful off of Marshal Peak. Some good WHACKS were observed including one pilot landing in a tree to the east of the LZ. No injuries were reported which is a good thing, in fact, I don't think any down tubes were bent.

For those that were close enough to make the fly in but didn't, bummer for you!

Dennis started this topic 10 years ago this month.

It was good to see Dennis and many good friends at Crestline yesterday.

Thanks Dennis for over 10 years of friendship!!

When I was there with you yesterday, Bob, it was looking kinda like a vintage pilot meet. ;)

Great to meet Dennis and the many others you introduced me to.

I think that’s Dennis with one hand on the tail of the keel tube
and the other on his cane.
I still wish Harry Martin would draw up a cartoon of an old pilot
maybe even me with an I.V. hanging from the crossbar, an oxygen cannula
hooked around the ears, the green tank tied to the other crossbar, a cane
hooked over the crossbar, big wheels on a walker that is taped to the
basetube of the control frame. A really hot nurse assisting on the nose
wires, a priest nearby or maybe a 1st responder’s vehicle. Crutches tied on
somewhere, go crazy with Harry’s ideas.

Excellent, Bob! I'm glad you got a more extended flight than last week. looks like a beautiful day. :salute:

When I got your message that you were going to Crestline and Candace would be driving I was torn between continuing to work on a project at my shop or jump in my truck and surprise you as another cheering section addition at the launch. However, there is the old saying about three being a crowd.

The day is getting closer when I will launch from Marshall. John Heiney says if i fly late in the day it will be smoother but maybe not soarable. Then he added that he thought I would still enjoy a 2200 foot "sledder". You bet!!!!
