Retraction? Restitution?

Postby JoeF » Fri Mar 23, 2018 11:59 am

While working on other matters, I came across the following paragraph:

Slander must be retracted. If you have lied about another and thereby
done him an injury, you are bound in conscience to correct your false
statement, to correct it in such a manner as to undeceive all whom you
may have misled. This retraction must really retract, and not do just
the contrary, make the last state of things worse than the first, which
is sometimes the case. Prudence and tact should suggest means to do
this effectively: when, how and to what extent it should be done, in
order that the best results of reparation may be obtained. But in one
way or another, justice demands that the slanderer contradict his lying
imputations and remove by so doing the stain that besmirches the
character of his victim.

Jumping into my mind upon reading that was the matter of U$hPa 's hits on Bob Kuczewski.
I await retraction and restitution from the U$hPa with respect to him.

Joe,

I have a feeling that the u$hPa will close doors before they would make amends regarding what they did to Bob. One of the reasons that corporations won't/don't admit they made a mistake and apologize is that that opens the door to a law suit - because they've admitted they have done (intentional?) harm to someone.

As long as they don't admit guilt they are protected unless or until it is proven that they acted maliciously. Most people can't afford the cost of a law suit against a corporation and may not have the motivation to do so either. So, the corporation gets away with their slanderous accusations.

Many corporations lack a serious moral compass, if they have one at all.

That's the problem. Corporations have no moral compass. Escapement of accountability is their purpose.
Corporations are functions of power and their 'operators' (for lack of a better descriptor) are
motivated by their own greed and/or self aggrandizement. The corporation is insulated by courts and run by lawyers.

I emphasize especially with what u$hPa did to Bob, as I suffered similar (somewhat micro?) treatment from a brief association in a little flying 'club' we tried to put together in Kansas City. If anyone knows anything about that failed experiment, they are encouraged to join the discussion @ Kansas City Hang Gliding Crash.
Retraction and restitution would be wonderful but exposing the truth of the matter would be a good start.

In the game show "Jeopardy" they put the answer before the question.

The answer:

    Joe, Scott, and Warren.

So what was the question?

Who are 3 men who make you
proud to have started the U.S. Hawks?

Of course there are many more than 3.     ;)

This is exactly right. That's why open voting by the USHPA Board has been so important to me. Morality, honor, respect, (and so on) are traits that humans can attain. Corporations are synthetic and cannot possess those traits.

Thanks gentlemen. You made my day.    :)

A while back you made our day Bob!

Too bad the u$hpa hasn't been able to see their way toward deriving the same conclusion. But then they are "conflicted" between making money and promoting the safer brand of minimal "free" flying.

Bob doesn't brag.
But USHPA kicked out a Ranger.

Thanks Rick. The Ranger Creed is not very long, but even in those few sentnces it mentions duty to each other twice:

"Never shall I fail my comrades."

"I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy"

That's the duty that I feel to those who have joined the U.S. Hawks. It's the same duty reflected by Joe's opening post, and by so many of our members who have spoken out for justice.

Just as the Rangers attracted an elite group of soldiers, I believe the U.S. Hawks is attracting an elite group of hang gliding pilots.

Deepest thanks to all who've joined us.
