US Hawks Hang Gliding Association

Hi, LA pilot, and gay. Was looking for a forum that really believes in complete freedom of speech. My parents are religious, so im still in the closet, even in california.

The signup process caused serious concern for a forum that espouses freedom of speech so much. Had to agree to this on the registration page:

"You agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-orientated or any other material ...

that may violate any laws be it of your country, the country where “US Hawks Hang Gliding Association” is hosted or International Law. "

According to who???? Who determines what is obscene? Many Christians think my whole way of life is obscene.
This sounds like the opposite of freedom of speech. The real test of freedom of speech is vile, unpopular speech you disagree with at your core.

These rules clearly oppress a wide range of freedom of speech. Certainly, this must be by accident. Probably the default message with the forum software?

If that is the case, I motion to something. How does that work? Can I motion to have all these freedom of speech squashing rules immediately removed from the registration process, lest the entire site be hypocritical?

You sound exactly like a government statist who tries to put people in a government approved freedom of speech pen, and pretends that they actually have freedom of speech. Is this the kind of pretend freedom of speech this site has??? Someone please tell me Joe is wrong.

This seems like a pertinent subject in the current ongoing discussion of free speech.

What if a gay pilot would like his/her sexual-orientation listed on your USHGRS so he/she can connect with people of similar orientation and beliefs?

Should Joe Faust be required to list the sexual-orientation of Hang Gliding Pilots on the USHGRS if they specifically request their orientation listed?

If Joe Faust denies the pilot’s request, is Joe Faust interfering with the pilot’s free speech rights and discriminating against the pilot due to his/her sexual orientation?

Can I get a 2nd, that Joe is horribly wrong about his statist "freedom of speech areas"??? This is what fascist regimes set up, so they can claim they believe in freedom of speech while doing exactly the opposite.

You may get a second from Warren. By what he says here on the Hawks, I believe he is a real advocate for absolute free speech in public forums.

Warren goes by “Free” here on the Hawks and only checks in when he can get to the library to use the public computer.

Where did my post go? I just posted to this thread and its nowhere to be found.

I've only seen claims of freedom of speech so far. I've been browsing for hours today, and keep discovering the opposite.

The registration rules are exactly counter to freedom of speech on a public forum.
When I registered, I was a bit stunned to find I could not post anywhere. Only in a "freedom of speech pen". I've never seen this kind of statist like system in a forum. Where is this so called freedom of speech? Someone please tell me all these things are simply errors that will quickly be corrected.

Where's the beef? Our founders would be rolling in their graves over the idea of any kind of freedom of speech zone. Who runs this joint?

So far your speech has been unfettered. But we do have a long standing rule that attacks cannot be made anonymously. You'll notice that people either use their real names or have satisfied us that their real names are known. For example, it's well known that "Free" is Warren Narron. In some cases we have asked for additional verification of identity such as a phone number associated with your real name.

You are welcome to remain anonymous if you like, but then you cannot use your account to attack others. We have witnessed too many fake users posting as "sock puppets" on other forums. That's not fair to the people who do give their real names.

Your posts so far have been clearly critical of Joe Faust, and yet you have not provided your real name. That's fine at this point because you've not been aware of the rule. You are now.

If you would like to talk about hang gliding issues, you're welcome to do so in the main forum. If you want to talk about non hang gliding issues we do have a "Free Speech Zone" for that.
