Search of US Hawks forum on Miller will bring up notes that might be brought into this topic thread.
All, feel free to expand some note that is found elsewhere. Perhaps a rich history on Richard Miller will collect here.
====================================================================================

Two SSA members who also became S-SA members * knew each other in Southern California: Jack Lambie and Richard Miller. Jack's Hang Loose tailed biplane hang glider without but weight-shift control (inadequate to handle gust upsets; it was for conservative easy airs for ground skimming). Richard Miller's signal sailor cap turned down tells us who is flying the Hang Loose on the cover of Sport Planes in a 1971 Spring issue:

Here is Richard flying my Colver Skysail at Vineyard St hill, San Marcos, CA

Also Richard watching me assemble my glider. Sailor hat has given way to a straw hat by these times.

!973 or 74

Richard Miller arrived at our Venice, California home and tuned Joanne's stand-up piano. Tuning pianos was one of the ways he earned money.

=============================
Frank Colver's SkySail came after Richaer Miller's Conduit Condor; the Conduit Condor was demonstrated at the May 23, 1971, Great Universal Hang Glider Otto Lilienthal Birthday Party in Newport Beach:
These two wings and friends set a terrific scene for the planform for further hang gliders that would show from Haggard's UP Comet forward.

Please note: I have proposed a "Richard Miller Day" at Dockweiler Beach historic hang gliding site for July 11, 2015. Follow the proposal on the "Friends of Dockweiler Gliding Society" forum to see if it will become a reality. This would be an "official" meet of the FDG Society, honoring Richard's pioneering of the site and hang gliding.

Is there a way to co-honor earlier user of Dockweiler along with Richard Miller. James Hobson used Docweiler for his "Rogallo Hang Glider". Jim: 1961 and 1962 and following. Jim stayed promoting hang gliding on TV before Richard did hang gliding at Dockweiler. I sense a Hobson-and-Miller PARTY. Both in their own realms got the word out. Hobson got the word out in EAA and also in national TV via the Lawerence Welk show that Jim directed. Jim stayed being a regular visitor to the early Self-Soar Association and Low & Slow office; Jim worked in Santa Monica just blocks from my office. See his topic thread in US Hawks forum: HERE

Richard held an event he called "The Pepper Tree Potluck" to try and encourage more hang gliding in the Vista / San Marcos area.

Here are : A letter to me, the "formal" announcement, & the only photo I seem to have of the event. In the photo, Richard is facing the camera and my son Matt has his back to the camera.

The young whipper snapper there must be about 53 to 57 years old by now. Time goes by so not slowly.
