Treaty of Versailles and HG?

"Woodrow Wilson's flawed 'pièce de résistance' that brought World War One to an end, and implanted the seeds of destruction which were to lead to a 're-match' 20 years later."

How much study of early hang gliding was done because of the Treaty of Versailles?
"No less than 50,000 Germans could fly by 1937!"
How many of those pilots stepped through hang gliding studies and maybe actions?
The pressure on Germany's airspace from post-WWI pushed sport gliding to a new high level of participation.
What club records and archives still exist? And what notes, photos, plans, etc. might be still available to researchers?
