Thanks for sharing that video Joe.

This is another example where the "lift and tug" hook in check would not have been an appropriate safety measure. Indeed, if a tandem pilot were accustomed to using "lift and tug" for solo flight, that habit would give false assurance for tandem flights like this one.

Did you notice that the guy's harness had the carabiner clipped to the shoulder strap for stowage?
That is a critical error.
Never clip the carabiner to anything, even for transport.
In the event you fail to clip in, you will want the carabiner banging against you.
It is the last hint that you are about to die but can still abort.         :o

Of course, you can always clip in, visually check your connection in and do a hang check.
You can also do your first hang glider flight on a training hill by yourself.
It worked for me. And it was awfully exciting.
So was my first high flight.
I don't know why people give that up to fly tandem.
For me, hang gliding is a solitary sport, a game of chess between me and nature.
I don't fly tandem.

A lot of foolish people think they're hang gliding with parachutes - but nobody ever thinks they're parachuting with hang gliders.

The only thing missing is a guy stepping out of the shed and handing him a beer.

trapeze version
trapeze type
Pat Finch in 1975 published an historical error; he had not realized the the trapeze version for hang glider was actually present in a sport hang glider in at least the first decade of the 1900s.
