This Speed issue. I mean varying My Speed while Flying. Really what is the Point to varying Ones speed? IF i was Flyng an XC route. sure, I would look at the classic indicators for where a Thermal would be more likely to be found. I looked for contrast, as in a Brown Field that was bordered by a lush Green Forrest, I would Fly a Zig-Zag Pattern that would have Me Cross this line of Brown Dirt, a Green Vegetation. It Yes, the Contrast seemed to be Fruitful regarding Thermals being formed.

Look I have given some of My Thoughts regarding when I searched for Theral's. How about some of Your thoughts regarding what You Guys look for regarding finding elusive thermals? Please respond with Your Comments>. I always was aware of My Gliders reality. Yes, the Predator does indeed have a Phenomenal Sink Rate. But if the Air that I was Flying in, was not: Rising Air. Then I would soon end up back on the Ground.

OK, so we all want to stay up in the Air, that is something that We all can agree to. Please share Your thoughts regarding Maintaining up in the Air.

So, Who Knows? Maybe I will be able to improve My Flying without leaving the Ground.

OK I have been looking around for anything regarding on "SPEEDS TO FLY". Well, I found this link is what I Found. So, who Knows? Maybe, just Maybe I will be able to raise My Leval as a XC Predator Pilot.

Maybe it is the case with Me, that I tended to pull on too much speed to often upon My topping out while Climbing in Thermals. It was the case Quite ofteb that Ny Flying My Predator 158 I could and did have so much confidence in the {Gliders} Ability to: {Get Up}. I did not worry that much about how fast I was Flying. But who knows what could or just might be possible regarding how Far My Predator 158.

In closing: I want to in the Spring when John is here. I want to see if He can Bring Me: {UP TO SPEED} so to speak, regarding Speeds to Fly.

{Speeds to Fly|, What really does that Mean. I really should have a Grasp on this subject. I man what really do Pilots do? Do they vary their Speed while on Glide, based upon how strong the last Couple of Thermals that They were in? What I Alwas tended to do, was after Topping out Flying in a Thermal pretty much regardless of ho strong the Thermals had been on a Given Dy. Yes, I used to most likely simply pull in on the Bar. I did not concern Myself with the strength of the Thermals that Day. I might have not adjusted My Speed correctly. But I more than likely was able to continue My Flying and Climbing when I needed to" {Get Nack Up|.

To Me varying Ones sped is akin to when flying. To not even venture out on an XC route. Citing that Flying in the Air above launch is somehow safer than when You Fly in the Air that is Oh it really does not matter, The Air Tem, Twenty, a Hundred or some number of Miles from Launch. I never thought that the Flying conditions on a given Day would somehow be all that much different Five Miles from Launch.

Remember, this section of the forum is for posting ideas or actual parts of a training manual.

Citing that Flying in the Air above launch is somehow safer ...

It's not staying above launch that is safer. It's staying within glide of a safe LZ that's safer.

But there is a correlation between between popular launches and their proximity to landing zones, because most pilots want to know that there is a safe landing zone within reasonable glide of where they launch.

{A SAFE LZ TO LAND AT}


You talk about how where You choose to land as being rite around where You launched at. I mean on a Givin Day, where after You have launched, then were able to stay Air born for a given amount of time. Then You decide to end Your Flight, by landing. I am sure that when You Fly that You use the same Skills that You or I use when Flying XC to remain Safe. One thing that I would do every time when I was Flying at the LZ. The place that We all would land at when launching from One of a Few Launched that were up on Mountains, I would use the Windsock that was placed in the LZ as only a Back-up indicator of the Days Wind Direction. For I always used My XC Skills to determine the Days Wind Direction at that time of day. I had determined the Wind Direction before I had to turn onto "Finale". The Windsock only confirmed what I had already decided Where the Wind was coming From. From the Air. What better place to be so that a Pilot can look for any obstructions, nut up in the Air, with a Birds Eye View.

So exactly how is the Ground around where You had launched from on a Given Day any safer than if You had flown oh say Ten, Twenty, Thirty, or more Miles away from where You had Launched From?

I realize that Cross Country Flying has little or no interest on this site. I also know a Pilot when the raw performance of one Glider to another resulted ina very negative response. I was simply talking about My Glider. I was not touting How I was some Sort of Super-Pilot. I was just stating that My "Glider, My Predator One Fifty-Eight had what Zac Majors had said about the Predator: Zack said: "The Predator has a Phenomenal sink rate". I mean it is the Gliders ability to excel. My success flying My Predator, never did I boast that it was because of My Pilot ability that My Predator was able to cover more ground than another Pilot Flying another Brand Glider and the Pilot flying It. But upon reading how enamored I have been with My Predator. My Pilot friend responded with some very negative comments.

o it has always been the Case with Me: It has been Me and My Predator for oh the last Twenty-Five Years or so. PREDATOR; What a Great Design.

believe that When I Am Flying again, that I will experiment with varying My speed when I am: {ON GLIDE} BETWEEN Thermals. Maybe that Way Predator will be able to Stay up longer in the Air. I mean flying XC is not a race Rite? I really do wonder about other Pilots who paid little heed to how fast They Flew. I mean after They began varying Their Speeds. Did They have better Longer XC Flights? It will be fun to see if My Flights end up being Loner. There those Two passages in the Bible. In the Book of Predator, it says: One: Thou shall noy Sink out". and also, in the Book oof Predator it says: Thou shall not Whack".

I mean I cannot be the Only Pilot Who tends to pull on the bat While under Glide. So please share Your experiences.

Ok, this sit very well might not be {The Site} where I should put up a Question asking Questions about Flying Cross Country/ For While there has not been much Kick Back Regarding Flying Cross-Country. THIS Hawks website seems to be almost devoid of Posts describing where Pilots have Gone XC. So, I am ready for no response to My query. Well, with that being said. What I want to know is: Speeds to Fly by. If one is up in the Air Flying on a Given Day. After launching from a Given Launch. So, really what does how Fast that a pilot Flys Make. I mean If there is a Pilot Flying, having topped out in a Thermal. read: by being able to Top-Out in a Thermal. On a Day when Starting a Glide Flight. Said Pilot is means that on that on given day in that general Area there is Lift. Then the way I think and coupled with my experiences Flying. if there are Thermals rite around where there is launch. So having topped out when having topped out in the initial thermal of the day. This fact having topped out. Let's say that a Pilot is oh say three Thousand Feet High AGL. Then if the pilot goes on Glide, weather at a Slow rate of speed, or at the Speed of said Gliders "Best Glide. Or at faster than best glide. even at a speed that is faster than best Glide. With three Thousand Fett is a good amount of Altitude with which to work with so that the Glider will cover enough Ground in Order to find another Thermal. What difference does it make as to how fast a Pilot Flys upon leaving a Thermal. Let's be honest: Sooner or later Said Pilot will not blunder into another Thermal and be Forced to do that Dirty, Filthy Foul Act that we use the Four letters to convey the Twisted Filthy failure of our Flight the Four Letters that make that four letter Cuss Word are N-D-A.L.
