Discussion of new PG tow rig on Houston Hang Gliding and Paragliding Assn.:

Mark Moore: Just pg or HG also?

Jaime Vargas: Right now only PG’er

Jaime Vargas: ...not sure if the rig will be able to take HG’er

Mark Moore: I guess I will have to become bi-wingual

George Longshore: You do and I will personally come out there and cut every single riser to the bag. I refuse to lose any more friends to those insidious contraptions that make absolutely NO smart person airworthy

I wish more hang glider pilots like George had spoken out.
Maybe we wouldn't be in this mess.

George's phraseology leaves open the question
Do paragliders make stupid people airworthy?

I'd go over to Paragliding Forum and ask, but they banned me from posting there when I raised questions about the airworhiness of paragliders...

You'd have to be an idiot to fly a paraglider after watching this stuff.

        ---------------- NOT AIRWORTHY ------------------
The hang glider pilots who allowed paragliding into the USHGA should be tarred and feathered.
I don't even want to get into the liability issues involved in foisting unairworthy air vehicles on the public.
Current members of USHPA should bail like rats leaving a sinking ship.
And form a national hang gliding association!
We sure need one.

Sounds like watching lemmings is great entertainment in some part of the world.

The scareworthiness of paragliders - from Russia*

*The term "scareworthiness" was entered into the lexicon of paragliding on December 31, 2017 by Rick Masters on the US Hawks forum.

Every paraglider instructor should show this video to every beginning student before the first lesson. Then the instructor would carry no liability if the student chose to continue lessons. Any lawsuit against the paragliding instructor or school would be thrown out as soon as a judge (or plaintiff's attorney drops the case) saw what the aspiring student had been shown.

Had I been shown movies of hang gliders in the 1970's going into non-recoverable dives, killing the pilots, I would not have been deterred from learning to fly hang gliders. I would (did) have designed a glider with positive pitch recovery characteristics. See my 1971 glider design below.
