So here goes. I suggest that the new (but separate) soarable parachute org change their name to The Para-Meciums. You see 'em, They see 'em, we all see the Para-Meciums!

Seriously, though, there is a need for an alternative to the USHPA for paragliding.
I pointed this out in a conversation with George Stebbins on the Oz Report seven years ago (June 4, 2009):

Your dislike of paragliders reads almost exactly like the early sailplane pilot dislike of hang gliders. Just change "without a frame" to "without aerodynamic controls." Each aircraft has it's appropriate environment. If flown outside those environments, the risk rises. Where the borders are is a personal choice. You may disagree with the choices of some paraglider pilots, and that's your prerogative (heck, I know I disagree with some of the choices that some of them make!) But it is their choice, not yours.

The importance of an airframe is clearly less significant to you than it is to me. I understand the Libertarian principle of free choice, but that principle requires a fully-informed decision. Paragliding commercialization preys on the sense of denial widespread among young pilots. The true risks are not made clear nor understood by many novice pilots choosing between paragliders or hang gliders. Convenience is emphasized. Once the pilot is sold a paraglider, he rarely continues on to hang gliding. Then, as he advances, he often desires to try his skill inland where the risk leaps. This transitional move is part of the first episode judgment call that is made based on insufficient knowledge and pack behavior. Many pilots locked into paragliders at this point may have chosen hang gliders if they had fully understood the differences in risk that they would be required to accept to proceed to advanced levels. The case made by marketing hype is that all forms of footlaunch flight deserve equal opportunity in the marketplace and it is strictly a pilot's choice. Because the inherent safety issue is ignored, this type of flawed thinking can be driven only by rampant commercialization, and not concern for pilot safety. The USHPA should be ashamed that it has brought the sports to this point of dichotomy.

There had been more than 750 paragliding deaths when I broached this problem.
There have been nearly 700 paragliding deaths since then.
That in itself is cause to revisit the topic.

As there Gang Laugh at City leaders and us Hang glider pilots
Governed by their Greedy Lawyers for power & profit

With the exception of totally collapsing deadly wing ~ there Fun to float
Some of Us float them as safely as possible, using our brains, knowing they collapse
Most of the Multi Wing pilots dont have the hate or a problem with it, cuz We fly both
Its more of a discus on how the OUR sport is regulated and run by a Greedy Goons that discriminate with violence
Duhhhhh ~ Danger is there business

The NEW common problem in all areas of America
Its also a very real question HOW do We get out from under the Grip of a Corrupted Enterprise, without turning into them (((BUTT HEADS)))
Will WE need two separate ratings from two clubs that divide and hate each other
