Rick asks about my posting humor about such a serious subject.

I sure heard a lot of background laughter while watching that video of para-lemmings running, sliding, falling, from a launch ramp. I'm bet hang gliders could have launched from that great ramp all day without a mishap.

Frank, after analyzing over 1,600 paragliding fatalities, I realized these people are idiots.
There is nothing anyone can do.

The same thing keeps happening to them, over and over.
The long-trusted paraglider suddenly bites them.
They seem incapable of understanding what's happening.
We might as well laugh.
There's not enough tears in the world if we start to cry.

This soaring parachitist now talks in a high, squeaky voice.
(Don't ask...)
Too bad he didn't wear the protection a hang glider's airframe offers in a crash.
But if he had been flying a hang glider, it wouldn't have collapsed in perfectly normal atmospheric turbulence in the first place, so I guess it's a moot point.

Well, in the Salt Lake paraglider collapse incident you heard it from the 12 year experienced paraglider pilot who witnessed the event: "it was an equipment failure". I would suggest that from now on he fly an airworthy aircraft instead of a frameless soaring parachute. Much less chance of an "equipment failure".

I wonder if they found the cause of the "equipment failure" when they examined the wreckage?

Rick,
In regard to your above post about that latest fatality (that you know of) the translated article says, in part -

"When he was near the wall, he got into a strong turbulence that caused the paraglider to lose its support,
causing it to collide strongly with the mountain," the organizer explained in a statement to the press.

Well, at least he don't claim it was pilot error or unknown causes.

It also occurred during the Pan American Paragliding Championship. In both hang gliding and paragliding comps, organizers tend to push the weather limits. But doing so is more deadly for collapsible canopies and their occupants. And often it's still just typical atmospheric turbulence that does in PGs.

Yeah. They acknowledge their bags collapse and kill them, yet fly them anyway.
It creeps me out. It's like a death cult.
