Why do people die when slamming into rock?

Postby Frank Colver » Wed May 20, 2015 10:31 am

I see that the tax payers are investigating why slamming into solid rock at 150 mph kills BASE jumpers.

I read in the paper this morning that an on-going investigation is trying to determine why Potter and Hunt died. Huh??? WTF???

Joe, they needed your "Soft Splat" for sure. Maybe the investigation will come to that conclusion.

BASE jumpers with wingsuits have the same problem hang glider pilots had when we transcended to double surface wings: Our margin of safety increased with the improved l/d and penetration but we all just flew further back into the canyons and braved stronger winds and turbulence, getting into just as much trouble as before. The Potter/Hunt catastrophe was probably another "Go-Pro" wreck as it seems unlikely two jumpers would simultaneously attempt an unproven track for any other reason.
