Maybe hang gliding isn't extreme enough for them?
Or maybe hang gliding wasn't an evolution of anything else. It was unique from the very beginning.
More than likely, however, if you look really close you'll find USHPA's fingerprints somewhere in that drawing.

However, there is an image of a hang glider to illustrate the next section in the wikipedia article on extreme sports all along with an image of two wingsuiters flying in formation. The whole notion of sports directly descending from another like generations of a family is questionable in the first place.
