Dry Canyon Alamogordo, NM (USA)Re: Dry Canyon Alamogordo, NM (USA)I am retired now, and I wish I could spend more of that retirement visiting friendly flying clubs like the RGSA. Unfortunately, I am up to my eyeballs in law suits (some related to speaking up for the sport of hang gliding). So while I wish I could come out and fly, it may take some time. Thanks to all who keep the RGSA going!!

Re: Dry Canyon Alamogordo, NM (USA)There will be times you all can get here.
Fly In Info https://rgsa.info Dry Canyon Info https://rgsa.info/SiteInfo/DryCanyon/DryCanyon.htm I still haven't finished my movie for last year's Columbus Day Fly In.
Re: Dry Canyon Alamogordo, NM (USA)Columbus Day Fun Fly 2024: A PG pilot, Norm B., crashed about 100 feet below the PG launch on a steep slope. I don't know the cause or circumstances of the crash. Fortunately a pilot who is a paramedic was present (Max M.?). A medevac helicopter landed at the glider launch. A crew of ground rescue, chopper medics, and a forest ranger brought him up. Bystanders manned a rope for the rescuers to move on the slope. The chopper took him to El Paso.
Three hip fractures. Pins in his hip and he is expected to recover well.
Re: Dry Canyon Alamogordo, NM (USA)Thanks for the report. I'm glad Norm will recover.
How many people showed up? Were there any HG pilots? Most of all ... when will we see the videos? ![]() Join a National Hang Gliding Organization: US Hawks at ushawks.org

Re: Dry Canyon Alamogordo, NM (USA)Hi Bob!
I think 8 or 9 PG plus some associates. At least 5. No one flew HG. A couple may be former HG or bi-wing-ual. They had fun. I've been busy and still haven't finished the movie for last year's Columbus fly in. My work is seasonal so I'll have more time soon. I have great chopper rescue video but the helicopter pilot had concerns about videos. Not sure why so I'm getting contact info. and will ask him to review my footage for approval. None of that will be publicly shown without his approval. Don't want any trouble for our hero. (It looked expertly done to me. Would make a good advertisement for that company.)
Re: Dry Canyon Alamogordo, NM (USA)I may have posted this before. Here is Mr. Bloom's analysis of his para glider crash.

Re: Dry Canyon Alamogordo, NM (USA)Thanks for that video. I hadn't seen it before.
Mr. Bloom gives a very good narrative of the event. It's a good reminder to all pilots that we have to be on top of our game at all times. Thanks for posting it. Join a National Hang Gliding Organization: US Hawks at ushawks.org
