Nathan in New Mexico

Postby RobinHastings » Wed Nov 19, 2014 9:35 am

Nate Wreyford stopped by to see us at the Rio Grande Soaring Association while on his recent business trip to El Paso, Texas. He got in two good flights. The first was at a 200-foot, sandy hill called Anapra Mesa; he soared it in his T2C along with John Theoret, the current Canadian national champion. Good east winds that day! A couple of days later I took Nate and John up to our Dry Canyon site above Alamogordo, and they both soared it for an hour and a half, from 3:30 until sunset. Good launches for both of them, and very competent pilots. Come on out and fly with us, anytime! You don't even have to drive, if you fly a medium size glider - I can lend you a wing, if you take an airliner into El Paso. Bring your harness, and do some flying!

Just checked out Dry Canyon from GE. Two gliders set up and a couple of more on rigs. We're RVing thru Texas next April but we'll be up on HWY 40. If I ever head that way with a glider I'll contact your club. Do you happen to remember a pilot from about 30 years ago by the name of Don Hatten? It seems he was stationed nearby and flew Dry Canyon a lot.

I look all around this forum and miss the part about my own area.

Thanks to Bill and Robin for the help getting airborne. Y'all have such a nice playground for flying out there. I look forward to my next trip out west.

Bill, I couldn't resist!! :srofl:
