He looks like one of Joe's happy wing runners ... who forgot his wing.

The Gingerbread Man in the tutorial is named "Gus" so I also searched Google for "Blender Gus", and found these two videos. I haven't watched them, but they might be easier to follow than the instructions published on the web site:
This wasn't an easy tutorial to follow, but it produced a pretty neat result.
