2016 San Diego Council District 1 Election

There appear to be two main candidates for the San Diego District 1 City Council seat this year:

The Union Tribune has interviewed them both:

I have spoken with each candidate and they have both been very generous with their time.

I have asked them whether they would (or would not) support the reactivation of the Torrey Pines City Park Advisory Board to advise the City on the oversight of that park. At the current time, both candidates are considering their positions.

Subsequent to our meeting with Mayor Faulconer (thanks to all the Torrey Hawks who attended), I received this email message from the Mayor's office:

As far as reinstating or creating a new Torrey Pines City Park
Advisory Board, we are deferring to Councilmember Lightner
since this is in her district. Should she decide move forward
with it, we will help as appropriate.

That puts the decision squarely in the District 1 Council Member's hands (currently Sherri Lightner). Sherri Lightner has refused to take any action on the matter and fortunately she has reached her term limit. So that decision will fall to whoever replaces her.

They do a somewhat sneaky thing here in San Diego. June 7th is our "primary", but if any of the candidates gets more than 50% they are declared the final winner and don't have to face a real election in the fall - which would have much greater turnout - especially in a presidential election year. This may be part of what allows the local corruption to continue.

Bob,

Since speaking to the San Diego City Counsel, they can't deny knowledge of the criminal wrong doing by ACA Inc. at Torrey Pines Glider Port/City Park.

ACA Inc. is making money by way of criminal activity (in violation of California Child Endangerment law). And now the City of San Diego leaders know - without question - that the concessionaire is profiting in the process of criminal violation of CA law. If nothing is done (swiftly), I believe this then falls within the scope of a Federal offense. Time to call the FBI? No, . . . no kidding!
