It was a better day than predicted by the National Weather Service.

I counted at least half a dozen Torrey Hawks ... which is pretty good turnout for such a poor prediction. They were rewarded with a pretty good flying day. :)

The day was mostly uneventful, but I want to document something I overheard ...

I was in the spectator area and a bunch of people were talking about their upcoming tandem flights. One of them said he really wanted a hang gliding flight instead of a paragliding flight. But they told him that with a hang gliding flight he'd be landing on the beach and have to hike back up the cliff afterward. So he chose the paragliding flight instead.

This helps explain the extreme imbalance between hang gliding and paragliding numbers in San Diego. The Torrey concessionaire has been skewing our population for decades. USHPA doesn't care because they become USHPA members either way. This is yet another reason why hang gliding needs its own association.
