Thanks Frank!!!

I'll give Wingspan a call tomorrow to see if we can make it unanimous.

The next steps might include us voting on a card design or designs. Maybe we can solicit the members to submit suggestions and we can vote on them.

I vote   YES   as well.

PS - An easy way to give some security to US Hawks ratings is just how the USHPA is currently doing it - with QR Codes. I just found a site that will produce a code with "your" rating info in text. See example below -

As to using QR Codes, it could be more effective to have posts numbered so that the QR Code (which can refer to a web page address) could refer to an exact URL and post # - which identifies that the rated pilot actually was issued a rating right here on this web site.

Ideas? I'm not sure if this "security" idea is ready for a second - some discussion first, I'm sure, would be best. Neat technology though! 8-)

Bob,

Could each rated member have their own US Hawks url address with their member and rating info included?

OK, the following motion has passed unanimously:

... the US Hawks should issue ID/Rating Cards through a process to be determined by further Board discussions in this topic.

So now we need to come up with a process for issuing the cards.

In order to cut costs, I suggest that we issue them electronically and allow members to make their own physical copies (printing, engraving in gold, etc).

Choosing a card image/design may be tricky since different people have different tastes. Also, anyone who spends a lot of time coming up with a design might be offended if we pick a different one. We could avoid that by allowing multiple designs and members can choose which one they want on their card. We could require Board approval for designs so we don't get people suggesting inappropriate designs which would be implicitly representing the US Hawks (remember that lots of people want to make us look bad). So an explicit vote to approve each design might be prudent.

What does everyone think of that approach?

I think these would be super!!!!!

I don't know about costs, but we should make our cards compatible with being rendered in that kind of format for anyone who wants it.

I can imagine individuals independently offering these kinds of services to our members and possibly making a profit from it. There's nothing wrong with that in my opinion, but we should discuss it to be sure we want to go that route.

NOTE: I've locked this topic since the discussion has continued in the other topic. Please continue the discussion there so we don't have two separate topics. We might merge them at some point to keep them together.

Thanks to all for contributing great ideas to the US Hawks!!!

UPDATE: After merging the two topics, I unlocked it again to continue the conversation.

I really like the hologram card Rick presented.

Wingspans QR codes idea like USHPA is using probably adds security but I must admit that in my area I've never seen one used . Think I'm just too low-tech ! Maybe we can do both ?

How about a window sticker while we are at it ?? :)

Nice hawk photos Keith!!!

When I founded the Torrey Hawks Hang Gliding Club in 2007, I searched the web for red tailed hawks to use as our logo. I ended up buying the rights to use the one that we've been using for almost 10 years now.   :)

Regarding the membership cards, I'm thinking that the QR code may be an optional feature. I like human readable information as well.

If you'd like a window sticker, please feel free to print some up. We only ask that you display them in a way that reflects well on the US Hawks.
