Add Mount 7 to Front Page list of Affiliates

Hello Fellow US Hawks Board Members,

I recently got a tip from one of our US Hawks members that we might be aligned with some of the goals of the Canadian organization/flying site known as "Mount 7".

I took the liberty of contacting them and copying our Board members on the communication (you should have seen the email earlier today - still Saturday in California).

In a subsequent message (that I just recieved), I found that they had already added a very complimentary link to the US Hawks on their front page with this text:

US Hawks (hang gliding USA association)

This association was born from problems with USHPA. US Hawks wants to be more open and transparent. Free membership. They solve the insurance strangulation with « Recreational Use Statutes » that are spreading in the USA. (note: in Canada, the liability insurance is not required in free flight. The only requirement is to pass the HAGAR exam, or the equivalent, to be authorised to fly distance. It is an exam on canadianaeronautical laws.)

I've included pictures of their "Associations" section (with that quote) and of their front page (below).

I hereby move that we add a similar link back to the Mount 7 web site under our "Affiliates" section of our home page (http://ushawks.org).
I further move that the link will text will be:
    Mount 7 - Canada
and it would be a link to:      http://mt7.ca/

Would anyone mind seconding this motion or adding their own comments / alternatives so we could bring it to a vote?

Thanks in advance.

Here are some pictures from their web site:

This is their list of Associations. It features a pretty good description of the US Hawks. I suspect we could request changes as needed.

HI Bob and gang,
nicely put but mt7.ca is an organisation of one individual. You may link to mt7.ca as a website of information about flying mt 7. It would be a bit much to call it an organisation, although I am organised.
cheers,
Serge.

Aha!!! So that's how you're able to make things happen so quickly!!!   :salute:

I was really getting jealous.   ;)

Your site looks organized enough to me to be on our Affiliates list, so we'll see if we can get a second and a vote on my motion.

By the way, we have a very nice topic titled "Hello US Hawks!!" (in the "Hang Gliding General" forum), and it would be great to see you post there so we can learn about your history in the sport. If you read through it, you'll get a good sense of how nicely it preserves the history of our members. It's probably my favorite topic on the whole forum.

We also have an active history section that you might enjoy. It's curated by some of the founders of hang gliding in the United States.

It's great having you join us Serge!!

I'll second that motion.

But one thing I'm wondering - possibly for the future, . . . Do we want to define US Hawks affiliates in one section as being Local to the US with an additional category for International affiliates?

It also sounds like Serge is an early Canadian version of you Bob. Lot's of what I'm reading sounds like what you were saying 6-7 even 8 years ago. He has a model here of something he might want to duplicate in Canada. The "Canadian Hawks". . . ?

Serge needs to begin organizing Canadian hang glider pilots around a web site like our own transparent member focused US Hawks. Sounds like the HPAC, like the USHPA may have gone off the rails. Do you really have to be a member of "social media" Face Book to view and/or participate in HPAC?

Like a number of people, I have no interest in Face Book. It's in the business of figuring out who you are and how to sell you its advertisers' products - and how to get YOU to sell your friends its advertisers' products. Then there's all that stuff about helping the Russians influence the way the international community thinks and acts.

Issue Handling Procedures as of February 21st, 2015

Based on discussions with the Trial Board Members, we've established the following procedure for handling issues:

Issues may be introduced by either Board Members or US Hawks Members.
All issues will be discussed by the Board in a private forum dedicated for that purpose.
Upon reaching a decision, the topic being discussed (along with the actual vote) will be published.

This procedure may be modified by the Board as we learn what works and what doesn't.
Join a National Hang Gliding Organization: US Hawks at ushawks.org
Bob has made the motion:
I hereby move that we add a similar link back to the Mount 7 web site under our "Affiliates" section of our home page (http://ushawks.org).
I further move that the link will text will be:

Scott has seconded the motion above:
I hereby move that we add a similar link back to the Mount 7 web site under our "Affiliates" section of our home page (http://ushawks.org).
I further move that the link text will be:
Mount 7 - Canada
and it would be a link to: http://mt7.ca/

Quote Scott:
  "I'll second that motion."
Before we move to, "Board of Directors Private Discussions," and then   VOTE   I am inviting discussion from the membership
to be completed by tomorrow 11:59 pm Monday October 30, 2017 PDT.

That sounds good Bill!!

I think that sounds like a good approach ... especially if the list of affiliates gets longer (maybe longer than 2?). Also, we haven't really defined what an "affiliate" is. Back in the days when I was running the site without any assistance from a Board, I could do things like create an "Affiliates" section without really defining it (other than to myself). Now that we're growing into a functioning Board, we will probably need to do a better job of defining things. At this time, we've already listed the World Hang Gliding Association as an affiliate, so the question is whether we'd like to add the Mount 7 link right beside it - meaning whatever that means.

That's probably why one of our members sent me their information. Slowly, but surely, we're starting to bring together the kind of people who want the kind of association we're building. :salute:

I would ask a board member to move this issue to the private board discussions to finalize discussion, see a motion, then move to a vote.
