3rd Sunday Funday at Dockweiler Beach Aug 21

Honoring the rich history and bright future of gliding at Dockweiler Beach

3rd Sunday Funday, August 21

Postby Frank Colver » Tue Aug 16, 2016 9:34 pm

Next Sunday is 3rd Sunday flying at Dockweiler. I'll be there come rain or shine and so will BobK and probably JoeF as well. Come on out and join the gliding fun, at the nice cool beach.

If conditions are flyable (usually are) we will all have available the Windsports Wills Condor all afternoon.

Sunday is still a ways off but ...

... the current forecast shows West at 16 from 11am through sunset.

I'll bring my Falcon in case it's blown out for the Condor.

I sent e-mail notices to seven SoCal HG people. Hope some will be there. As of now it looks like it may be soarable but we all know how much the forecast can change. However, atmospheric conditions look good as the week goes on for a good on-shore flow by the weekend.

I'll bring my Alpha 210 also.

That sounds great Frank. I'll bring my Falcon as well. With a Falcon 195, an Alpha 210, and a Condor 330 ... we should be ready for anything.    :)

Here's the forecast as of just past midnight (early early Friday morning):

Forecast Made on Thu Aug 18 21:34:56 2016 UTC

Time6a7a8a9a10a11a12n1p2p3p4p5p6p7p8p9p10p
Direction240240250250250240240240250250250260260260260260260
Speed3.03.03.03.03.09.09.09.013.013.013.013.013.013.010.010.010.0

The headings (240, 250, and 260) are a very nice direction for Dockweiler. The speed also looks great. If we get there a little before noon, we can practice in some nice 9mph wind before it picks up to 13.

Maybe we can convince Greg to let us fly until sunset.

FYI, we had a very nice day of flying Sunday. The wind wasn't especially strong, but it was very comfortable for Frank to reach a new "high water mark" in his return to the sport.

Frank and I shared his Wills Wing Alpha 210 all day long and it got lots of air time between the two of us.   8-)

Here is my Vimeo of one of my flights. I like this video because it shows some of the ground handling sequence up close, as my camera hangs around Bob's neck. I did correct his statement that i was 80 - it's 81 Bob. You know us engineers have to be accurate at all times.

A Great day at Dockweiler Beach! I'll add some video of Andy soaring when I get more time to process it.
