I think I agree with Eagle. Seems coincidental that Dockweiler would be the first/only business to experience these new ins. demands.

Were/are there other business/flight parks that are being threatened?

Unless you consider the recent US Hawks event held there.

Hawk roast? Most likely. :(

How one reduces the fog of BS down to reality.
This may cause some to say, it's a tongue in cheek post and others to say, this is exactly what is going on.
Copy/Paste, Letter to the City of Las Angeles authored by R. Masters. Copied from the US Hawks Hang Gliding Association:

Re: Los Angeles, California

Unread postby Rick Masters » Mon Apr 24, 2017 9:19 pm
County of Los Angeles
Department of Beaches and Harbors
13837 Fiji Way
Marina Del Ray
CA 90292

Dear County of Los Angeles,

It has come to our attention that, while hang glider pilots are charged to use Dockweiler Beach, enthusiasts of other sports are not. We are therefore submitting a formal Request for Proposal (RFP) for concessionaire for the following activities which are presently not covered under the current regulations:

Biking
Diving
Fishing
Surfing
Swimming
Volleyball

All these activities have produced greater accident numbers than hang gliding at Dockweiler Beach. Therefore, to be equitable and fair, we propose requiring each participant to buy insurance from us to use Dockweiler Beach facilities, using the same model required for hang gliding. Because we are self-insured, it will be necessary for each participant to buy a term of membership in our corporation. We will, of course, ignore California Recreation Law, which holds your County harmless, and maintain the pretext that insurance is necessary for all activities taking place on Los Angeles County premises. The extra money will help us to provide a living wage for the people we hire to regulate these activities. Any who refuse to buy insurance will be turned away or arrested by Los Angeles County police on our complaint. We will, of course, be free to establish our own rates.

Sincerely,
Predatory A. Hole

I was just saying to myself "It's too bad The Oz Report isn't more like The US Squawks". What a simple… solution -just copy-n-paste all the poisonous noise no healthy person would seek out there.

Many Error alerts trying to post this so I had to tweak it a bit to get it to "Submit."
Some here at the US Hawks are not permitted to access the OZ Report.
Ben Reese has some strong opinions on my post and to avail others of the pleasure
of Ben's opinions I have moved his post here.

Here we go again.

BK was not expelled for making testimony in court.

He was expelled for making false testimony in a court.
This is called perjury and it is a crime.

Further expelled for violating the SOP's over and over again after many
warning to this effect. These warning's occurred over a period of years.

BK was and still is on a campaign to undermine USHPA and makes no
hiding of his agenda. He is loathed by 99.9% of USHPA members
who in their wisdom saw fit to expell him. There was a unanimous
vote by all voting members in complete public disclosure.

I am glad BK has a place to fly, and it is completely irrelevant to the
reasons he was expelled. Do I agree with some of his arguments above?

Yes I do.

If you want to use public land for any purpose and you meet that
land owners/mgr's requirements then it should be allowed.
A case by case permission should apply to organizations or individuals.

However this is no victory and no threat to USHPA by BK. It is an anomaly
of the mgt at Dockweiler Beach who decided to grant permission.
This is only until an issue occurs that puts this property in a liability.
That is USHPA's main mission, is reduce liability via membership rules
and insurance against tragic loss that is a common occorance in the history
of this sport.

To rub sand in the eyes of USHPA shows BK has learned nothing about
being a good member of anything.

To claim that 99.9% of the active community in this sport which is made up
of some very accomplished people who choose to expell BK is to rage
against humanity it's self.

To be so single minded and mis-led by your belief that you would commit
public suicide and call it murder is a testament to your illness.

You morons touting this as some kind of victory have errored in the worst way.
Instead of quietly flying and enjoying the moment proves you're not about
flying at all. You are about destruction and burning down the house of your
fellow flyers who would like nothing more than for BK to quietly enjoy a flight!

That can be by its self the most healing thing BK could do for himself and
all of us. I pity your little minds and your play ground fight that is all in
your imaginations. It is the ongoing arguments of dyslexic social misfits who
grew up thinking they were going to be a super hero.

The truth is everyone of your moms are more super hero than you will ever be!
All they did was live a normal life so you could have a chance at one. But you
just keep disappointing her every day. But since she is your mom she won't tell
you that. She just keeps loving you and hopes you straighten out before
Daddy gets home!

I know I talk in parables and such so here it is plain..
USHPA is your mommy and we all want the best for you and your misfit tribe.

"Fly and be free but don't tread on thee…"

Daddy is the town meeting you brought down on yourself because you did not listen to
mommy telling you over and over with patience.

I don't have a cute phrase for that one above because your not quite there yet.
However based on your guys track records it is going to get worse.

Just go away, fly away whatever, knowone really cares. If they did you would not
have to light a bon fire and dance around it to get attention!

B R"

"Hang Gliding History was made on, July 26th, 2017 - Freedom from USHPA Day at Dockweiler"
http://ushawks.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2742
The permission to use the site for hang gliding activities required a signed waiver with the County and is limited to the hours between sunrise and sunset on days that the concession (WindSports) is not using the site - currently Mondays and Tuesdays. We flew there today (Monday, July 31st, 2017) in accordance with that permission.

In order to obtain this permission, several meetings were held to discuss the need for this decision. Among the arguments presented were:

1. The County should not require membership in any private organizations (such as USHPA) in order for public use of public land.

2. The County should not require membership in any organization (such as USHPA) that expels members for legal testimony in a court of law.

3. The County should not require membership in any organization (such as USHPA) that expels members for making legai public statements to their local government.

4. The County should not require membership in any organization (such as USHPA) that expels members for creating competing organizations."

I wish I was still able to post on the "Oz Report". Someone needs to set Ben Reese back on the tracks. Clearly he has derailed.

Make note of how often he incorrectly spells simple words. :srofl:

I think Benny needs to do more thinkin' before - and while - typin' ?

PS - Ben Reese is obviously too much of a pansy to join the US Hawks and have a sane back and forth conversation with some other (very experienced) pilots.

I, for one, have 42 years of experience flying hang gliders. I could easily pick out 4 other pilots here on the US Hawks who, combined with my years, would total beyond 200 years experience in the sport.

Yea, and when is Straub going to wake up and hit the off switch on poor old Benny? He's given the Oz Report a bad name. Not that Davis hasn't managed that pretty well on his own.

Ben Reese again? Sheesh ... where do I begin?

Ben Reese wrote:BK was not expelled for making testimony in court.

This is called perjury and it is a crime.

If there was false testimony, then why didn't USHPA's big bucks lawyer (Tim Herr) prove it in court and save USHPA's insurance program?

If any idiot (not naming any names here) could tell that it was "perjury" then U$HPA members should fire Tim Herr for not just proving it himself.

The reality is that my testimony was rock solid and unassailable. That's why Tim Herr's retaliation took place in USHPA's little kangaroo court and not in a real court of law with the benefit of witnesses, evidence, and an unbiased judge and jury.

I was talking with a long time pilot this evening, and I was updating him on the Dockweiler situation. It dawned on me during that discussion that USHPA's expulsion letter reads like their own confession of retaliation. It's easy to bring that expulsion letter to any government land owner and disqualify USHPA's insurance program as being arbitrary and retaliatory.

I didn't force USHPA to write that letter. The "geniuses" at USHPA did that all on their own. They wrote the letter that's going to be their undoing because it confesses their injustice. Any USHPA member with a brain should be furious at USHPA for such a monumental screw up. But there are those without brains in the sport. They tend to be U$HPA's best customers.

Ben Reese wrote:Further expelled for violating the SOP's over and over again after manywarning to this effect. These warning's occurred over a period of years.

What SOP violations? There were none ever quoted. I asked repeatedly for USHPA to cite any violations explicitly. None were EVER provided. The best thing they could come up with was a fuzzy "purposes and interests of the corporation" clause. So I asked what were the "purposes and interests of the corporation"? They refused to answer that as well.

The best thing I can say about Ben Reese is that he's not a member of the U.S. Hawks. Thank God that he's in USHPA's tent ... and not ours!! I hope USHPA never goes out of business so there will always be a home for everyone like Ben Reese ... and NOT in the U.S. Hawks!!!

If I were able to post on the Oz forum, I'd ask Ben Reese to post the exact false statements and the exact SOPs and the exact warnings. But then getting to the facts runs contrary to the Oz forum.
