The process of gathering data is objective and necessary. Interpretation is often subjective but all interpretations are not equal. Trends can be recognized and validated from incomplete lists when inflowing data continues to uphold the trend. Sometimes extreme elements of incomplete data gathering develop patterns that jump out at you and raise questions.
    This is the case in paragliding where an extremely high percentage of spinal injury is reported. Sudden collapse of the paraglider resulting in injury or death is another.
    The frightening characteristic of the paraglider to suddenly drop its pilot from dozens of meters has no comparison in any other sport. It has become clear to me that the paragliding community deliberately makes data gathering difficult to protect its image. Because of this, I regard the interpretation of statistics by paraglider pilots universally flawed and dishonest. This is why I choose to collect incident reports myself.
