Bob,
I was wondering how best to set up the nominations so far for a vote.
How about this idea?
First I did a copy/paste of each nomination.
Next I pasted to “Note Book”. (to scrub the code and not crash Works Word)
I’m now in the process of deleting any site duplications.
Then do a copy/paste to Microsoft Works Word for spelling check.
Then I would paste to “Spreadsheet,” and then alphabetize.
The number on the spreadsheet would not be the ranking but the site designation that would be used for the voting preference.
Something like:
12 = 2, 18, 5, 14, 13,
Can anyone see where that would not work fairly?
Any simpler suggestions?

Whatever we settle on, Bob, I would like for you to make a “Snip-it” posted to show how to click the vote button the day we start the voting ballot.

Hi Bill,

I think that sounds fair and reasonable. It might also be reasonable to do some of these steps by hand by just copying and pasting, but if you've got a more automated method, then that's a plus!!

Also, I was thinking that in order to keep the nominations and voting all in one topic, I can update your first post with the final list of nominations once the deadline is past. That way people can vote without having to scan the entire topic looking for the final nominations list. In fact, I can update it further to show the results. If we do that, then the first post acts as a summary of the whole vote from nominations, to voting, to results. Then people who want more details can read through the rest of the posts to see how that result was obtained.

Does that sound fair to you?

Thanks,
Bob Kuczewski

Bob,
I’m not sure that I’m on the same page with you but if what you are saying/typing means that the end result will be simpler to follow then I’m for that.

Hi Bill!!!

Thanks for your time on the phone on Mother's day.

To fill everyone in, I called Bill to answer his questions over the phone, and I think we're on the same page again.

I let Bill know that we can update his first post to add more information as things change. For example, when the nominations are complete, we can list them (and number them) in that first post. So anyone wanting to vote won't have to go through every page in the topic to figure out what the choices are. They'll be right there in the first post. Now they can read through all the postings to see who nominated which sites and any arguments that were offered, but they don't have to do that in order to vote.

I also let Bill know that he's the person in charge of this vote since he called it, but I'm willing to do any of the "grunt work" to help carry out his policies within this topic. So he doesn't have to worry about combing through the posts to pull out the nominations. I'll do that under his guidance. In my capacity as forum moderator, I'm working for Bill in this topic. It's much the same as with any of our club forums where the Presidents (or Boards) of the clubs make the decisions, and I just carry them out.

I hope it will be easier for everyone to understand this process after we've done it once or twice. ;)

Thanks to everyone who's submitted nominations so far!!

I've added a new BBCode Tag titled "nominate" which will mark the text of a nomination with a special format and code that we can use to pull them out automatically. I've added that tag to the nominations already listed in each post. Here's the current list:

Torrey Pines
Crestline
Sylmar
Fort Funston
Henson's Gap
Dockweiler Beach
Chelan Butte, WA
Crawford Mts., Randolph, UT
Frontenac Ridge, Frontenac, MN
Look Out Mt., GA
Henson’s Gap, TN
Maiden Rock, WI
Mingus Mt., Cottonwood, AZ
Dry Canyon, Alamogordo, NM
Point of the Mountain, Draper, UT
Wallaby Ranch, FL
Lanzarote, Canary Islands
Iquique, Chile
Mt Seven, Golden, BC, Canada
Eagleville, California, USA
Cape Jervais, Australia
Chelan Butte, WA
Magazine Mountain, AR
Villa Grove, CO
Lookout Mountain, TN
Point of the Mountain, Draper, UT
Dockweiler Flight Training Park
Humble home-roof launch place
BASE hang gliding sites: Eiffel Tower
Soar the lift of a long fence.
Local steep streets
Empire State Building
Some cemeteries
Sites of historic hang glider flights
Wasserkuppe
Zapata, Tx
Mingus Mountain, Arizona
Crest line CA
Fort Fungston CA
Soboba CA
Point Of the Mountain UT

There are some duplicates in there with variations of the same names. I suggest that the person who starts a vote topic (Bill in this case) should use his judgement as to which ones are duplicates, and which variant(s) to use for the actual ballot. If anyone feels strongly that their variant is different enough to be included, then I suggest that their wish be honored even though it might give us essentially duplicate choices.

I would like to nominate Gamin's Launch at   Cape Lookout on the north Oregon coast  . Here are a couple links of YouTube videos to give those that haven't flown here a sense of the scenery.

I would consider nominating   Bald Butte in the upper Hood River valley just north of Mt Hood   but am not certain about current access to a suitable LZ and also do not have any photos or videos.

Moderator's Note: The "nominate" tags have been recently added to this forum so nominations can be highlighted and processed automatically. They consist of the "nominate" and "/nominate" tags surrounding each nomination. Because this topic is primarily a test of our voting system, both of John's suggestions were given the nominate tags because more choices will be a more rigorous test of the system. John, please post or otherwise let me know if you disapprove of these tags and they will be removed. Thanks, Bob Kuczewski
