Howie,
I too have some paperwork that is not registered.
In 2003 I started to collect my information from my log books and get the two required signatures from observers for my H5 Masters rating.
By 2004 I had displayed enough of what I already knew to a Region #4 observer and he signed off on my H5.
(The procedure can take a while.)
Then I found out that I would have to trust the US Mail with my eight log books and send them off out of state to my RD Jim Z.
After considering that all I might get back from the US Mail was an insurance check in place of my log books I said,
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
I am yielding to the US Hawks rating system that is in place right now for the reasons described in the posts above this one.
Some year I may attain my HANG V rating and all the prestige that comes with it. (Which I've witnessed can be fattening.)
I long for the days when when lowly H4's, and worse, will kneel and kiss my H5 ring.
But let me assure you --, at my brittle age, I won't be landing in any LZ more difficult than a H3
Let me know when I have to clear my schedule to be your site guide down here in New Mexico.
