In the Beacon magazine:
After people's names, there is frequently a capital letter in front of a year. Here is the legend for such:
S = St. John's Military Academy graduate
N = Northwestern Military & Naval Academy graduate
H = Honorary Old Boy
No initial before a year means St. John's Northwestern Military Academy graduate (1995 to present).

James Hobson or Jim Hobson
"Hobby" would have S1940 designation.

Back issues of Beacon are not online. Just one issue is online.

Review for 1960-1962 for the standard hang glider of the four-boom biconical sort:
:arrow: John Worth with A-frame and many various versions of payload holding. Full simplicity. Mechanically equivalent to what was evident and available in public domain since, at least, 1910.
:arrow: Thomas H. Purcell with A-frame, hung pilot, boat-tow, water landing. Commercial plans sold internationally. FlightSail.
:arrow: Charles Richards with long-tall A-frame of lattice sort for low-hung payload (pilot-holding and wheeled undercarriage). Many versions. Paresev program.
:arrow: Barry Hill Palmer Seven or eight versions. Various A-frames. Fully aware of hung-seat and cable options.
:arrow: James Hobson A-frame. National TV. International exposure in Sport Aviation magazine, the E.A.A. organ. Viewers: tens of millions of people had image impingement of a Rogallo Hang Glider.
:arrow: Mike Burns In 1962 did the modeling and testing; then in April of 1963 had maiden flight.
In the same period there were scores of other people forming intricate innovations over the basic standard wing; they show up in patent filings, articles in media, articles in the organs of the U.S. Army, U.S. Marines, public media, publication of Ryan Aeronautical.

Jim, ... again Thank You for your rich life of adventure, leadership, pioneering, and more.

I wish Jim Hobson had gotten wind of the renewed Otto Lilienthal celebrations before his passing. But I suspect he's been enjoying them from afar.

Every human at every point in history has an opportunity to choose courage over cowardice. Look around and you will find that opportunity in your own time.
