Returning a bit while going forward on one branch of safe-splatting, the monovelo indicates some lowering of mass for the surround mono-wheel that might encompass a hang glider wing.

With a new look at an old Tony Prentice safe-splatting solution:
Consider now the two struts to the ski; a splay is started; but now consider letting the feet of those two struts to the ski be allowed to splay further at impact, but with a restraining via some optional method:
== Resettable tearing.
== One-time tearing. Replace tearing assembly
== Rebound bungee.
== Ratchetting bungee to prevent rebound
== Crushable, one-of. Replace crushing material for next splat.
== Air piston. Scheduled leaking.
== Water piston. Scheduled leaking.

F1 and F2 could fit in to a slide mounted on the skid with a spring or rubber buffer that is compressed by the feet as they splay. A limiter would be needed to maintain a minimum height for the base bar, above the ground, keeping the pilot from ground contact.

F1 could be fixed, but hinged. Then upon impact need for damping: Have F2 slide in channel or some sort of optional guide, but restrained via one of the options seen (those with rebound and those without rebound seems to form two general classes of options). Have the ARP-suggested limiting position.

Rebound versus one-way "give" for damping or arresting splat forces is an arena deserving careful study. The change of direction in rebounding systems is potentially a damaging item.

Notice the soil denting of the tangent face of the wheel in the landing gear of the hang glider and compare such denting with distributed pressures that occurs with ski face to soil:
