Is there a graphic (poster/ad) available for this upcoming gathering? If not, perhaps there's something from a past Lilienthal anniversary event that could be edited and used for this one? It would be great to have something available to promote this public event.
This is a great opportunity and location to promote and grow our sport. The US Hawks, who are sponsoring this event (thanks to the generosity of BK), are offering the public a chance to come out and experience the dream of bird-like flight for FREE - how cool is that?
I think we should do everything possible to get the word out about this rare opportunity; a good graphic/poster would help do that...

Thanks for the reminder. The harassment at Torrey has been distracting me from this project.

I just called Joe G. to ask about getting any historic artwork from his collection to use as a starting point for building a logo of some sort for the event.

I wonder if we should start a contest seeking proposals for a logo. What do you think? Do you have any artwork you might suggest?

Again, thanks for helping move this along!!

Great suggestion.

I just got off the phone with the Eagle and he'll keep an "eagle eye" out for anything that looks like it might make a good logo.

I've also made a call to Joe G. who might have something, and I'll bet we can count on Joe F. as well.

I can't wait to see what everyone brings forward!!

Here's a poster from the 1974 meet that Joe Greblo sent me:

That's not really a logo, but maybe we could use similar lettering?

I was originally thinking that it would be great to get something from the original meet (1971), but I don't know if they had any logo at that time.

I don't know. I thought it might have been Joe Greblo, but that hair line looks like it would predict (40 years into the future) someone with far less hair than Joe has today. I've contacted Joe to ask if he knows who it was, and I'll pass it along if he doesn't reply himself.

So do you think you'll make it to the meet? This will also be the first large scale US Hawks members meeting. It will be cool to meet so many US Hawks members in person!!

Nominating the El Segundo Blue Butterfly (ESBB) as the butterfly mascot of the coming Otto Birthday Party. It is open to have scores of mascots from other realms.
ESBB was near extinction, but because of concerted volunteer efforts has made a comeback.
 See story:

Adult ESBBs are preyed upon by crab and lynx spiders. Males usually emerge early. At peak, the male-to-female population ratio is about 2:1. More females emerge later during the active season.

Maybe someone will call El Segundo Herald about the Otto Birthday Party.

Several of our members have been reminding me that I need to get moving on a poster for this year's Otto Meet. But I've been bogged down in legal matters and with USHPA trying to expel me, so I've been saying "I'll get to it, I'll get to it".

Well USHPA number 24 (our own historian, Neil Larson, aka "FromDayOne") stepped up and just sent me his own draft that I've included below. I really like it. What does everyone think?
