Eddie is returning on that day from afar. He inquired about time ... I guessed that some people will be there in morning and some will be to sundown, I guessed. Things seem to go that way on fun days.
He has not a Porta-Wing, so he said, "No." My guess: If he arrives in timely order from afar, he might drop by; the site is only a few minutes from his home.

I think it will be a fun day from sun rise to sun set. I plan to bring my Falcon 195 and "Little Hawk". The Falcon will be for anyone who wants to fly it, and Little Hawk will be great for "photo ops" for young and old.   :D

Thanks again to Phil and Neil and Joe and Joe and everyone else who's helping bring this together.

Tried my best to get something about this event on the .org but no deal. The flyer for the event is GREAT!!!

Anyway, I'm in the final stages of packing for the Dockweiler gathering :). We leave in a couple of days. Of course our route there is not direct from our NorCal home - we're getting there via Florida and other distant places. Should arrive the L.A. area 5/21ish.

Looking forward to it!!!

Let's see ... if a hang gliding pilot gets all his news from hanggliding.org they won't know:

  • There's an alternative national hang gliding association being created.
  • There's a 44th annual celebration of the birth of hang gliding with pilots from all over the country.
  • USHPA is kicking out pilots who testify on behalf of other pilots who've been injured.

Seems like the "iron curtain" on hanggliding.org is creating a fairly ignorant group of pilots.

Phil

Purchasing Airline ticket now , flying in from Florida to LAX... May spend the night on the Beach, at D&W ... Just to be completely traditional about the whole "Walk In "ECO" & Fly Out" concept that Joe Faust mostly subscribed to the olden days,,,Joe sort of gave the pretense it was only a truly righteous Self-Soar (all eco-fly) if you could walk to the top of the take-off point and not have to use a polluting vehicle, then fly out.......... It's not like the location at Dockweiler Beach is new to me....I lived 3 miles east down Imperial back in the day... actually that location was sort of my SCHGA Official designated spot. For many of the people who would fly there in 1971-1973 , they knew me as the "Official SCHGA Greeter" ... Many a Saturday I would ride a bicycle down in the morning and ride back home after dusk........... So it will be very personal to me , to be among such an illustrious group of individuals . I hope I have enough memory sticks for my Camera to get all the photos I want to capture ... Thank You Bob Kuczewski so very much ..... for having the desire to get this ball rolling ...

It's great but there's no way for people to find out more without a link. You could try another tinyurl, but that might be dangerous!!

The fact that Jack is locking down information about this great event is more proof that his site is doing a serious disservice to the sport of hang gliding.

Skypoke linked GliderRider.today which links the Otto meet at USHawks site. So, some bridge has been established. Let's see how Jack handles the progress of knowledge:
