Right about now I'm wishing that after moving to the desert southwest that I hadn't sold my boat tow rig. I would be out there so fast towing up in front of Torrey Pines GP and blowing a portable hand boat horn every pass up wind of the concessionaire.
PS EDIT: Without a radio, Park Sticker, signing in, fee, or a whistle ----Is there other BS that I'm forgetting?
Oh, and just out of the jurisdiction of the SDPD. (Bob, you'd like that part of towing.)
We could rig a portable battery powered PA (megaphone) so that Bob could preach to Torrey while soaring.

That sounds rebellious. I'd go with a platform on the boat or launch off the beach. I think salt water plays hell on hang gliders.

Brian,
I did later rig my boat for platform tow. I cut the top off of my waterski tow post and made a plug in "T" bar that would hold a HG'ers basetube. I bought a High Perspective Winch, made in Canada by Ski Dog Bob, that I bought from Jerry Uchytil of now Hudson Wisconsin. I still have it sitting in my garage with 3600' of line on it. We would tow up on the Mississippi River in front of the cliffs on either side of the wide spot in the river called Lake Pepin. I know for a fact leaving no room for doubt that I have the knowledge to tow up in front of Torrey Pines and soar that cliff. However I'm thinking that the old sailplane tow site at Torrey would be the first opportunity to pursue. But for Bob water tow would leave the SDPD out of the equation.

I'm not so sure. Isn't the SDPD working for Robin Marien the Gliderport concessionaire?

 . . . . . . . . :srofl:

It's also usually the case that PDs and/or Sheriff's Departments (or State Police?) have boats of their own when a body of water is in their "jurisdiction".

Hey, wouldn't it be a laugh if Bob could get it arranged to be towed up by a (State) police boat?

Or, better yet, maybe the US Coast Guard could lend a hand!
