Cinelerra Newsletter - March 25, 2014 Volume 2 - Issue 2

We merged many features that have been on the community network version into Cinelerra-4.6.mod. An extensive list of fixes is on-line on our downloads section.

We have compiled a list of future features and glad to hear you suggestions for features, as well. If you would like to see the list, contact us -- support(@)cinelerra.org

New updates to Cinelerra online – as of March 25, 2014. Download for Ubuntu, CentOS, Redhat, and Open SUSE. Also, there is a script for building from source on-line in the download and developer area.

We have built into Cinelerra an automatic translation of Cinelerra using the Google translator. We are very curious to get your feedback and assistance with translations, if you can help.

We set up a Cinelerra manual Wiki. If you can help to add and help complete it prior to translation, we will appreciate it very much.

A new controller to Cinelerra built on the Android platform is available on-line. You can use your Android device as a remote controller and turn Cinelerra into a TV and DVR.

Developers are invited to participate in the improvements to Cinelerra, including recent commits – all on-line.

Submit features and updates for review and inclusion into the 4.6 version of Cinelerra. We made a number of changes to the Cinelerra Titler for your testing and review.

We fulfilled all of the goals for the first 10 months of the Cinelerra Project 30 effort including multiple distribution support and a plan to support all languages.

We are currently working on speed improvements to Cinelerra and moving to the next part of the plan. Find Project 30 overview on Cinelerra.Org.

We listed both tutorial and creative videos on-line on the website --- find many amazing creations produced on Cinelerra and numerous helpful on-line tutorials for assisting you with basic editing and special effects plug-ins including motion tracking, titling, and slow motion. Many more.

If you have expertise using the Color Correction features of Cinelerra and wish to help with the wiki manual and tutorials, please post to the wiki or let us know and we will help.

Rick,

Could you give those of us who have no idea what Cinelerra is a brief description of the program/application - or what it may be otherwise. I'm starting to get an interest in Linux based systems and Bob sent me some links where I can down load complete OSs. I just have to take the next step. :shock:

Sure. Cinerella is an open source non linear editing system developed on Centos Unix, now being ported to various flavors of Unix. I have been playing with it for about two years. I installed it with Centos 5, then did a really difficult (but successful) install from source code to Ubuntu 11, mostly to see how it stacked up against Adobe Premier. Now March 25 they've announced a Linux version, so that's really exciting.

Non linear editing has heavy reliance on hardware. The cool thing about native Unix NLEs is they can accomplish something close to the same thing Windows systems can do, but with a much lower investment in hardware. Cinellera wants to be a full blown NLE and the strides have been impressive. It is hands down, imo, the best open source NLE, the most complex and the most frustrating. It has the steepest learning curve. For me, a major attraction is the way it handles rendering. It's all done within the application and it costs nothing. Put 50 rendering servers to work and you will not have to buy a single license. A project of that scale is going to save ten thousand dollars or more by the time it starts work.

Yeah, keep your eye on Cineralla.

Cinelerra was recently integrated with the FFMPEG library and we are reporting higher speeds and new support for multiple formats and resolutions. Cinelerra is now editing AVID and APPLE Final Cut Pro files with ease. 8 Bit, 10 Bit, 12 Bit, 14 Bit ---- Pretty Amazing!

The Color Correction tools of Cinelerra aka Telecine are quite extensive and can enable you to greatly improve the look and dynamics of your work.

We integrated the G'MIC library as a plug-in to our Cine-Color Telecine tools-- an open and full-featured framework for image processing, providing several different user interfaces to convert, manipulate, filter, and visualize, generic image datasets, from 1d scalar signals to 3d+t sequences of multi-spectral volumetric images.

A 32 bit version of Cinelerra is on the website download page for those using older systems.
