If it stinks to high heaven ... imagine what it smells like within the PDMC altitude!!!

Since this topic is about the Torrey Pines lease, here's an email message that I sent to USHPA back in 2007 requesting that they publish an advertisement about the lease that was supposed to be up for bid before August of 2008. I was contacted by USHPA with some resistance to publishing this ad, but they had no grounds to stop it, and so they did, in fact, publish it.

You'll note that my announcement was public so that everyone in USHPA would know about the opportunity. You'll also note that I didn't even state whether I would be a member of the proposed consortium or not. I just wanted to bring good people together to hopefully get better management at the site. In fact, I didn't even exclude David Jebb or Robin Marien or anyone else from wanting to be part of the consortium.

I was contacted by a number of instructors and schools who had read the ad, but the City never issued an RFP (Request for Proposals) that would have opened the site for bidding. Instead, the City allowed the Jebbs (and their chosen ones) to continue running it for all these years.

Here's my email message from May 15th, 2007:

Subject: Classified Ad

Hello Martin,

Here's a copy of the ad and letter that I sent yesterday.

Bob K.

=============================
Dear USHPA Classified Department,

Please place the following Classified Ad in the earliest possible issue of Hang Gliding and Paragliding magazine. I have counted 56 words, which should be 25 + 31. That should be $10 for the first 25, plus $31 for the additional words for a total of $41. I have enclosed a postal money order for $50 which should cover these costs (along with any miscounting). I have also enclosed a CD with an electronic copy of the ad (AD.TXT) and a few other files which should be used to verify changes. Please call me at 858-204-7499 if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Bob Kuczewski

==================================
THE TORREY PINES GLIDERPORT - lease will
be up for bid in 2008. HG/PG instructors, tandem
pilots, pilots, and other personnel are being sought
to explore forming a consortium to bid on the site.
This is an explorational announcement to determine
the level of interest in this project. Anyone interested
should call Bob Kuczewski at (858) 204-7499.
