Rick,
For sure. You can’t do that in a hang glider.
My reasonable suspicion is that this video portrays a Self Induced Victim clinic maneuver. (Way too close to the surface.)
I took note of the extreme arm movements just before the short plunge. :wtf:
Also note that this falling human, "JUST MISSED THE BOAT!" (Which was a good thing.)

Taking up paragliding instead of hang gliding is definitely "Missing the boat!"

It's the second-to-last turn on your approach that is most important.
In hang gliding.

Amazing that he can still walk around. It looked like he was coming down pretty fast just before impact. It must have been slower than it looked.

Yeah. You can tell a paraglider junkie who had a close call that he's been warned and should pay attention.
Then they tell you "collapse is a safety feature."
That "paragliders recover but hang gliders don't."
And off they go, paragliding again.
They break their legs; they break their backs.
It doesn't matter.
Off they go, again.

Paragliding is bigger in countries with socialized medicine.

Seriously. Helicopters and socialized medicine. It's obvious.

Since we have lots of helicopters in the USA, you can expect paragliding to explode like an L5 vertebrae under Obamacare.

"Houston: We have a problem..."
Nope. You can't do this on a hang glider.
