What was at risk from a hard whack without skids or wheels or rollers?
Self? Tools to inspect? Tools to repair? Rescue? Hike down?

Note the elastic "V" cord, pulled by two teams running at 30-45 degrees away from the center line, makes it impossible for the glider to lock out or even veer to the side.
