Re: Flying possibilities Friday May 6, 2016

RGSA/Hawks, SSA, and drivers,
Just thought I'd throw out a tentative teaser for the Gray Hill area for the end of the first week in May. 05-06-2016. (Friday).
With breezy days and next wetter possibilities followed up with some easterly winds it might take until 05-06-2016
for things to get nice for HG/PG in that area.
Of course that length of time is beyond the range of any scientifically prognosticated (is that a word?) believable hog wash when it
comes to a forecast. Just keep an eye on the weather.
So breach this tentative expedition with any significant other, deserving of such consideration, so as to allow enough time to wear them down.
Have rehearsed answers for any stupid issues that might be brought up like, removing the storm windows, cleaning out the garage, or servicing the air-conditioner.
Have at least three plausible rapid fire answers for any interrogative that starts out with with this preamble: "When were you planning on -- (yada yada yada.)"
Keep on you and use regularly some Natural Tears Eye Drops, for when you, #1 deliver your well rehearsed rapid fire answers, #2 maintaining eye contact, and most importantly, #3 DON''T BLINK! (If you blink you lose your power. :shh: )
Take advice from an old pilot that has weathered decades of psychological abuse when it comes to guilt trips, veiled threats, cultural expectations, and complete BS! :shh: :shifty:
EDIT Don't forget, -- the LZ is so big with only grass everywhere. So much grass you will wish you were a cow.

Yes, Gray Hill is a possibility that weekend. Perhaps the Guadalupes would also work, or even sites closer to home. You sure write a persuasive essay, Bill!

Hey Robin your home phone didn't pick up twice just after noon today Thursday 28th. It went to a try again later message.
So I left a message on your cell phone.
Mike E and I after a pow wow on the weekend weather are leaning toward Saturday as less of a chance of blowing out before launching.
I'll wait until we hear from you.

Let's join up with everyone in the Cox Field LZ about 11:00 am on Saturday. Dry Canyon looks like it should be good. Anyone who wants to fly, come join us!

RGSA/Hawks,
Today, Friday, has Saturdays forecast still looking good for going up Dry Canyon to launch.
So far the pilots that plan to meet in the LZ at 11:00 am are, Bill, Mike, and Robin.
The forecast has backed a little further away from getting blown out for HG but still looking strong for PG.

The forecast was off for today. Plus Robin had to backtrack to tow a stranded motorist so he appointed me to drive for Mike E. so up to launch we went.
Mike noticed the clouds east over the mountains were looking like there was some east wind that they were signaling.
West on our side of the mountain things were west. At launch for a time it would blow about 30 mph from the SW then stop and blow for a while light out of the north. Then it would do it all over again and again.
He decided to leave the HG in the bag and drive down.
Looking at the weather history he called it right.

These were wind speeds on the ground. Up at launch they are always higher.

Las Cruces, NM (USA) This early in the morning wind gusts this high doesn't leave one much hope for HG/PG.

Yes. And at 11:35, it was SE 15, with gusts to 23. Getting too strong for Anapra, I'll bet, or even for towing. It's just not our weekend, I guess. (Next weekend, fairly strong southwest winds, down here and up north at Gray Hill - though Sunday seems a little lighter.)

I think for me at least any flying at Gray Hill will depend on a good wind forecast for Friday Saturday Sunday and maybe onto Monday.
This would include not being below freezing at night for camping.
Mike R. would like to go but May 6 is his happy adversary day for him and his wife.
He is hopeful we will get blown out and delay going until the next weekend of FRIDAY THE THIRTEENTH :!: Maybe as luck will have it we will find a better forecast. :? :?
If the weekend to Gray Hill has to be moved farther along it will not bother me that it will be on FRIDAY THE THIRTEENTH :? (Knock on wood.)
But the sport has always been this way.....It depends on the wind.
Let's keep an eye on the forecast for May 6th.

Robin, I missed your missed call after 8 pm. The answering machine light was hiding behind the Kleenex box.
Check out Anapra for Monday, today, and clue in Mike E.
I'm currently searching for the sandman here on Wunderground Mike said he will be up early.
I'm going to try for early too.
