Starting May 1, 2016 I am no longer a member of the USHPA.
I started flying January of 1978. I have enough experience to decide when it is safe for me to fly my hang glider at Torrey Pines.

Since the City of San Diego is not charging a fee for people that use the park for recreation I understand that CA State law requires that I must hold the City of San Diego harmless should I injure myself.

I would not fly if there would be any chance of my recreational use of the park to cause harm to anyone else.
Anyone else using the park must also hold the City of San Diego harmless if they are injured while in the park.

Of course GROSS negligence will never be an excuse for any person or entity.
Everyone is responsible for their own actions while on public property.
Everyone except for those excluded under the California Recreational Hold Harmless Act. (Which in this case covers the City of San Diego CA.)
Exactly why are there rules, statutes or ordinances (not laws) that prevent me from flying my hang glider at Torrery Pines?
What are the names of the people standing in my way that need to be moved aside?

It is so un-American for USHPA to kick out a member for creating an association they think threatens their MONOPOLY on the sport that I think they should change their name to HPA.
Leave the "US" off.
My country was built on competition.
Competition drives excellence.
Without competition you could end up with, say, a hang gliding association run by parachuting businesses...

The venerable USHGA has degenerated so far away from its original purpose that I am getting the feeling that the US Hawks is more like the old USHGA than whatever USHPA claims to be now - like a parachuting fiefdom that won't discuss safety with its subjects. If that's the case, the USHPA is threatening the ideal of hang gliding represented by the US Hawks, not the other way around.

It is not sufficient to blame everything on BobK.
The USHGA was pretty tolerant throughout its history.
We're all a bunch of prima donnas, you know, jumping off cliffs and thinking we're above everyone else.
We learned to live with that but then something changed.
It was USHPA that created this mess and raised the divide to its current level.
One need only ask how many points of the conflict stem from paragliding.
Hang glider pilots who are happy with the situation need do nothing.
You can rest assured that nothing will change, since anyone who wishes to effect change from outside the corporation will be immediately expelled.
Others should take dual membership with the US Hawks, if only to lodge a protest.

Anyone who effects an unwanted change from within the USHPA association is under a threat of expulsion. The Loss of your flight Rating/Licences and insurance.

The don't blow our cover or else, a "shut up policy"
Passing the Buck (weather the City, the Gliderport or the USHPA admits it or not)

The threat or retaliation for speaking at City Council is expected normal business. it's ok to squish the opposition in any way.... members included

I've watched these people commit crimes, pose a threat to everyone...then use the Law to protect themselves
This Policy has been in place & effective for years.

And Finally ,.... its the City that holds the power to stop it.
