Last test of the day decided to take out the bungee.
So this is still the bar/leash arrangement but minus the bungee.
this was taking a risk at causing damage (no shock absorption) but no damage was suffered.
I still dont like the trajectory but the mains are OBVIOUSLY unloaded as the weight shifts over to the leash.
I think the reason these tests do not appear as successful as the first Bar/leash/bungee test is more speed (better pulleys).....I think what looked like great success in the first test was a much slower crash.
I am glad I took the bungee out. I am learning more from this vid than from the others.

That last one looks promising.
What do you think of a bungee with a rope stop?

Still had a bit of steam left so i re-rigged. Experimented more with the Arpr idea. Ran it through the shoulder straps. Let out just enough line to go snug a we bit when the glider is resting on my shoulders and I can feel a wee bit of tension when i am fully flared.
then I loaded it back up with sand and let er rip. As will be seen it did not end well for Mr. Sandman but all that says is maybe the shoulders is not a good attach point....I am thinking of trying again but attaching around the front of the lower waist/hip area......

Kept his head away from the keel. Now --- is there any middle ground to be found?

Bungee with a rope stop....yes! But the bungee portion needs to have enough slack in it to not interfere with range of motion. Wish I had an industrial sewing machine on site I would whip one out. Will see what makeshift rig I can come up with.
I see both pluses and minuses with every configuration so far.
I think Tonys idea is going work fine, just needs mounted farther to the rear, near to or just behind the center of mass.

I think it needs wheels. Big ones.

Valid point, that last test DID keep Sandys head away from the keel. Ripped his imaginary head right off before it came anywhere near the keel. I am going to be rigging ARPs ARPR today in various modes today.
My pulleys are still not working too well and I may change location of the crash site so the basetube does not drag on the ground before the sudden stop.
Good observations about whack simulation Bill, yes, the front pulley does restrict the whack action some but the action we are seeing is close to real life even if its not exact.
What amazes me is how violent these relatively slow crashes are with only 60 pounds in the harness. Really illuminates how seriously dangerous the head first, whack scenario really is. And we get up and walk away from most of them.....amazing.
In real life whacks do not seem as violent as these tests, at least not at the speed this test rig is moving, which is actually a bit slow compared to real life.

On the rope that you use to haul the glider up the zip-line could you put a release on the glider side of the pulley? When you trip the release the pulley and haul up rope would seperate from the stinger. (It may not make much difference -- I don't know.)
