3rd Sunday Funday July

Honoring the rich history and bright future of gliding at Dockweiler Beach

3rd Sunday Funday July

Postby Frank Colver » Fri Jul 15, 2016 11:01 am

I'm going to skip the 3rd Sunday this month. The weather is still quite warm inland and I think the beach will be a "mob scene" like it was in June. A clear landing area becomes a problem on hot summer weekends. BobK and I have talked about going there on a Wednesday sometime this summer. If anyone else can do that and is interested let us know through this forum.

The wind forecast doesn't look very good but we all know that can be quite different on the site.

Another reason for me to skip this month is that I'm preparing to go to the Owens Valley for five days of paddling sections of the Owens River. On some of those days I will be joined by Rick Masters and if Roy Haggard wasn't so busy with work he would also be there in his kayak. I'm hoping he might still show up. Three old time HG flyers who also run rivers! There's another one living in Moab UT, by the name of Dave Cronk.

I spoke with Greg and they may be playing soccer on the beach?

I plan to be there either way.

Five days of river paddling sounds like a great vacation. Have fun!!

It was a pretty good day. I flew the Condor all day and did some ridge soaring. My camera didn't last as long as I did, so I only got video from some of my early (non-soaring) flights:
