Flying conditions history Sat. Jul 2, 2016

Postby Bill Cummings » Sat Jul 02, 2016 5:14 pm

My post above said Jun but should have said July 2.
Today's history was way better than the forecast of both models .
It looks like we missed a good day at La Luz.

Re: Flying possibilities History Gray Hill NM

Postby Bill Cummings » Sun Jul 03, 2016 9:44 pm

Wow! Gray Hill history from the WX station at the Very Large Array was great for flying HG today.
It was west most of the day but the thermal wind gusts looked bad for PG,

I wonder what the smoke and fire situation is there.

Tomorrow looked like it could work and Dry Canyon. There is a westerly push so any OD would probably only be a concern on the east side of the mountains.
Temp. was over 100 most everywhere today. Even as far north as Socorro, NM (103).
For most of tomorrow it shows west light. Mike didn't express any need to fly and probably due to the 100 degree heat, L&V.
Taro wants to wait for more pilots to show up. He and I are going to keep an eye out for Saturday. Showing good for La Luz but that is many days away.

West winds in our area.
Taro will have to decide where or if he wants to try Dry or Little Florida's.
Mike didn't pick up last evening.
Robin can't go.
Edit : (07:53)
Looks like we are going to go to the Little Florida's

RGSA/Hawks,
The first things to get out of the way are the results of the post above. I started a new topic thread titled,
Little Florida Mountain, Deming NM (USA)

Readers can back arrow (@ top left of search engine.) and find out how that expedition suffered.
____________________________________________________________________________________________
Today, Sunday July 10, 2016, will have one hundred and over temperatures all across the bottom of New Mexico (USA).
The chance of thunderstorms, in the afternoon, near the mountains, is more likely than not. :|
If you don't have central air conditioning go to a shopping mall or a movie theater.
If you have central air conditioning today would be a good day to posts a flying story from your log book.
Start a new topic and call it something like, -- Hang Gliding Stories, or From My Log Book, -- or something catchy.
You need not be RGSA club member to post your stories here at the RGSA forum.

Re: Flying possibilities WED-THU 13,14,-2016

Postby Bill Cummings » Wed Jul 13, 2016 3:37 pm

Today and tomorrow it's still going to stay above 100º (F) here in the desert southwest.
Most of southern New Mexico (USA) on the flats will have to put up with the heat. Only in the mountains will there be found temperatures below 100º.
Carry a gallon of water a day for each person in your vehicle if you will traveling to remote areas. The heat will last for the next three days for sure. Maybe more but that forecast is too far removed to be reliable beyond that.

Re: Flying possibilities Step Toe Butte, WA

Postby Bill Cummings » Sun Jul 17, 2016 6:02 pm

At 18:30 I received a call from a well know pilot (here) that was standing on top of Steptoe Butte
http://www.spokaneoutdoors.com/tekoamt.htm and it was fly-able.
I directed him to look NNE to see Tekoa Mountain http://www.spokaneoutdoors.com/tekoamt.htm
From Steptoe Butte he/they are headed SW to Portland OR, so will miss out on Chelan Butte WA.

Finally with temperatures dropping out of the triple digits after a ten day run over 100º we are still in our monsoon season.
There is an easterly push going on if we look at Deming current weather and Artesia Launch Code shows SE strong.
Lee side (east) of the mountains it is L&V at Alamogordo and Las Cruces. Deming like Artesia is showing stronger winds without out the mountains in the way.
Chance of thunderstorms on the east side of the mountains are high today. This would cause gust fronts.
The direction for most sites is poor but I haven't looked at Anapra NM yet (by the Mexican border fence.)

Wednesday's forecast for Friday (today) didn't hold.

Thunder storms in the area.
Saturday is calling for 103º at Alamogordo New Mexico (USA).
We did get the easterly flow from Artesia to Deming but L&V on the lee of the mountains.
Down here in the Rio Grande Valley on two thermometers I had 109º.
L&V landings for today and in the LZ density altitude @18:00 was 7,400' msl.

RGSA/Hawks,
Bad morning everyone!
That's not a wish but warning.
It's already too hot in Las Cruces at 08:05 MDST and the high for today according to the forecast will be 105º in Las Cruces New Mexico (USA).
Alamogordo, 70 miles northeast of here has their high temperature set for 100º.
So let's not waste time on wind speed and direction. Okay?
Conserve electricity between the hours of 9 to 6 pm today here in the desert southwest.
We don't want to experience any scheduled rotating brown-outs due the the power company unable to keep up with demand.
Drink lots of water and check on your neighbors.
If you have a car with air-conditioning you may want to gas up for a back up. Have drinking water in your car.
Today El Paso, TX 45 miles to our SSE is expecting to make or break the record high of 106º. It was set some time in the 1990's.
If you have to go outside today here is a trick that really only works good in dry climates like we have. Put on a long sleeve T shirt but first soak it in warm water then wring it out by hand.
Today in Tucson, AZ the high will be 108º
Today in Phoenix, AZ the high will be 113º
