I've got a good friend in the Boston area and that is definitely how "Boston Harbor" would be pronounced.

The only reason he and I can successfully communicate verbally is because he spent 25 years in the San Diego area, so he became proficient in our language. ;)

So how would "Boston Hawks" be pronounced?

Just thinking out loud here.          ;)

Hello US Hawks!! We welcome Michael Townsand

Postby Bill Cummings » Mon Dec 19, 2016 9:13 am

Hawks, Michael Townsand has registered with the US Hawks Hang Gliding Association.
He has been vouched for by myself and Robin Hastings of the RGSA/Hawks.
Michael has shown an interest in hang gliding and Robin and I have met with him on the Bunny Hill.
He has near fifty experiences with wing running just with Robin and I as mentors.
Years ago he and his brother put together a home built and ran it off of the garage roof.
I'd like to hear how that went.
As soon as it warms up here in the desert southwest we should be out playing on the Mesquite Dam which
is the next step up from the shallow slope at the arroyo near "A" mountain here in Las Cruces, NM.
The holiday season may have a lot of us busy but when Michael shows up here please take the time to welcome him to the
US Hawks.
Thanks Hawks

Welcome Michael, to the US Hawks and to hang gliding. But be careful - hang gliding can get into your system and even if you live to be 81 you can't get it out.

Hey John,
My mantra (sp?) to myself to get me out of bed each morning (at age 68) is:
"If Frank can do it at 82 the what the hell is up with you?" (Frank Colver)

Just thinking ahead here ...

"If Frank can do it at eighty-three,
what the heck is wrong with me?"

That's a rhetorical question. No answers please.

Newly interested in Wisconsin

Postby Robert Hutchinson » Sun Jul 23, 2017 11:35 am

Howdy!

I'm a 300 lb. (shut up, I'm NOT fat...there's just more of me for my wife to love!) potentially interested hang glider pilot in Appleton, WI.

I say potentially interested because my primary interest is to fly. (period)

Since I have very limited financial resources, I believe that the whole LSA thing is probably out of my financial range, and the ultralights that I maybe can afford aren't capable of handling my weight!

This thinking has led me to consider trying to build my own Rogallo wing (like from the 70's), which has, in turn, led me here.

During my registration process here, I had the opportunity to speak to Bob, who (to very loosely paraphrase him) pointed out that my plan might allow me to fly, it might not allow me to fly for very long...or ever again (yeep)!

He suggested that I post here, seeking guidance on a better course of action.

So, what say the community? What's the cheapest, safest, best, etc. way for me to get safely airborne in Wisconsin?

I'm looking forward to y'all's responses!
