A paraglider was critically injured Thursday in a solo crash on a remote, rocky hillside near Lakeside.
A witness saw the man plummeting toward the ground off Quail Canyon Road in Blossom Valley shortly before 2:30 p.m.

Strong thermals allow hang glider pilots to approach heaven without actually going there.
Hang gliders don't collapse. An airframe makes the difference.
So insteading of wishing, during our final moments, that we had had a hang glider - we actually have one for the entire flight!
How can worrying that you are going to die in turbulence be any fun?
We don't know.

You can try reasoning with these guys... But they won't listen. You are not one of them.

After a while you will begin to realize you are not responsible. It's Darwinian.
It's natural selection. The collective IQ goes up when the deficient cull themselves from the herd.
It's their death wish. Not yours. It's their peer group. Not yours.
They delude themselves into thinking they are immortal and you and I are nothing but grumpy old men to them.
Perhaps there is also some darker, grimmer, fatalistic, nihilistic societal decay at work.
It's sad. So unnecessary. So incomprehensible. So...
Laughter helps. We have airframes. They don't.
They don't have aircraft when they die. Ha, ha!! What a bunch of nitwits.
You don't even have to explain this to the public. They already get it.
