Some Prentice, Nitsch, and family wing running with Otto.
Some moment gliding occurred also.

Glenn,
What wing? How many children were in flight that day? Breeze?

TIA

Ha ha, Mel Glantz's Condor 220, one of two, along with a couple of other training hill HGs. Using a scooter tow, the kids came right off the ground straight into a steady southwest 5. This camp ran for several days, and had at least a dozen kids involved. It was a really nice time at Balloon Fiesta Park....

Glenn,
Robin and I are planning on doing some wing running at the Guadalupe Rim, NM this coming weekend. Can you get away too?

Thanks, normang !
It appears that Balloon Fiesta Park would be a great place for an international wing running event including the sort that involves mini hang gliding. (mHG). Aside of formal events that must be arranged with the authorities, the park features: "Informal use of the park is free, though the park is sometimes closed for special events."

Some wing running is shown well in this video:

Notice that wing running is not necessarily hang gliding.
There are wing runnings that are not hang gliding.

During his (hopefully soon to end) ban from hang gliding at Dockweiler Beach BobK could do wing running with Little Hawk. Since the wing area is way to small to actually fly, no one could accuse him of hang gliding. I haven't seen anything in the county's rules for Dockweiler that prohibit wing running. Windsports is the concessionaire for teaching hang gliding and insurance is required. Wing running some glider looking machine art that is incapable of lifting the runner off the surface is not learning to hang glide it is running on the beach with a large kite in the artistic form of a hang glider.

Performance art lives :!:   :salute:

Almost every time I visit the beach in Los Angeles County I see kids wing running on the sand and off the ridge just before the wet sand. Their wings are usually towels or arms. Runners that leave the ground (as opposed to walkers) and jumpers are often seen at the beach property; the runners wings are their hair and caps and clothes and arms. They run ....and jump and go through the air without any part of their body touching the ground.

"[Roadrunners] can run at sustained speeds of up to 19 mph for considerable distances, and usually only make short flights in order to escape danger or flush prey. Very rarely one might be seen volplaning, or gliding downward with wings extended, from a ridgetop or other high perch." — Marcy Scott, The Las Cruces (New Mexico) Sun-News, 13 Nov. 2016

I've seen many bugs leap from the sand only to return again.
