1st HG flight since my 82nd birthday

Honoring the rich history and bright future of gliding at Dockweiler Beach

1st HG flight since my 82nd birthday

Postby Frank Colver » Mon May 22, 2017 10:26 am

We had a great gathering at Dockweiler Beach on Sunday May 21, 2017 marking the 46th anniversary of the very first hang gliding meet on May 23, 1971.

Here is a photo of me taking the first hang gliding flight I've done, since I turned 82 in March. This is the beginning of my third year, since returning to hang gliding in 2015 after 37 years out of the sport. I'm forever grateful for the help and encouragement I've received at Dockweiler.

It's even worse than you may know, Neil. USHPA didn't ignore the event. They actively tried to sabotage it.

Months before the 2017 Otto Meet, USHPA's lawyer (Tim Herr) contacted Joe Greblo with new constraints that made it both more expensive and more difficult for us to hold the event this year. Tim Herr also made it clear that Joe was not allowed to let me fly this year (even though I'd been able to fly in all previous years).

USHPA knows the US Hawks promotes and endorses this event every year. But if they thought grounding me would kill the event ... they thought wrong again. Check out the Los Angeles County Board videos to see the results of USHPA's most recent retaliation.

Add this latest insult to the way USHPA has treated founding members like you and it's clear that USHPA has become a blight on the sport of hang gliding.
