It would be great to have you both show up at this year's Otto Meet if you can make it. This year's event is on May 21st, 2017. It's free for everyone, and there are always a lot of interesting and people and gliders. Here's a video from the event 2 years ago:

hey all, been busy....sorry I haven't checked in for a while, witnessed a Paraglider fatality at Dog Mtn. four days ago. A Mid-air between two pg about 150 off the deck. They wrapped together and no reserves got thrown. One died within about 15 minutes, the other is going to live but suffered many fractures.....ANYWAY....my account of that incident probably belongs in a different thread.
I swung by the "safe splat" to share that I did a compilation of the zip line testing I thought you all would appreciatte. I also casually mention USHAWKS.org in the vid and try guide pilots to both USHAWKS.ORG and this thread in the description trying to spread the word.
I can see I have a lot of USHAWKS news to catch up on so I am going to read through the threads and leave safe splat with this video....I really appreciate the integrity of this club and I am very glad to be a part of it....later..RS, SJ, or whatever name is appropriate.

Sorry the link isn't working. works fine for me so I do not know if I posted incorrectly or not but I have a question.
USHPA has total control over all our major sites right? And is it true that they have complete control over what safety equipment to require we fly with?
If that is true, and our most common injury results from the sudden deceleration of the hang glider due to a bare base tube striking the ground, resulting in the pilot swinging foreword and striking his or her head on the keel of the glider....uh....WHY doesn't USHPA require that wheels be used at all the sites they have control over? All they require at most sites are helmets and parachutes.
Don't get me wrong. I am for letting each pilot make his or her own decision regarding wheels.
I do not want any more control over what I can or can not do....however...
when our sites are at risk due mainly to this sudden stopping of the hang glider which in most cases wheels can prevent if the wheels are what I call "adequate wheels". (I define "adequate wheels as wheels of sufficient strength, size, and efficiency to handle the weight of the aircraft, the speed at which the aircraft touches down, and the roughness of the field the aircraft is landing in).
Isn't this gross negligence on USHPA's part to not require that adequate wheels be used when flying at USHPA controlled sites?.....does not make any sense to me at all.....RS

No.
If you have a better idea, some people will adopt it.
For a cross country purist, wheels add drag and will not be considered.
Hang gliding is the simplest form of flight.
Revel in it.
Anything you add to a simple system opens more pathways for things to go wrong.
The slippery slope doesn't just have wheels and complex restraint devices, it has mandatory tran$ponder$ and $earch and Rescue deposits.
Don't go there.

Link works here imbedded & @ YouTube (Fire fox)
USHPH has most all pilots thinking they have total control at major sites.
If they talk them into third party insurance then it's peer pressure only that has
Pilots waving their rights. That's what contracts do. If a person is
Okay with that well that's their choice.

It seems that a recent change has occurred whereby videos cannot be view at least by me in the UK. Not sure why this is but if the link is provided then I can use that to view as indeed Joe provided earlier. I would ask any one putting up videos to also put up the link so that it can be viewed by those affected by this restriction.

ARP,
I think for the most part I've been doing what you have requested when making an imbedded link.
I started doing that a long while back when the imbedded video tool bar provided less functionality
than when viewed at YouTube. More recently the imbedded tool bar functionality was improved.
However I noticed, also a while back, that the imbedded downloading time was slower. That was when I
including the URL address just above the imbedded YouTube screen.
Most of my YouTube links are on the RGSA Club site. By now the imbedded slower download time may have been corrected. I haven't checked.
What are you doing up? Isn't it your bed time?

Hi Bill,

Just visited and found your post. Thanks for including links it makes things easier. Not sure what time my previous post was sent but considering the time difference from the UK it may not have been that late?
