DW, I agree,
Brevity, Relevance, Honesty and History based on previous observations.
A statement airing a question all could answer.
How many more PG's will apply for:
"Look Ma no USHPA!"
Since BK went to war against PGing he will have many friends
and admirers to share the sing along…

Dave,
It is my understanding that PG's are not allowed to fly at Dockweiler (sp?) due to the proximity to airspace.
If I'm mistaken on the reason that PG is not done there the obvious reason would be that the sand dune is so
low that a PG would be above the lift ban to be of any practical use.
HG would be able to use the lower lift ban.
Another thing Dave is, if PG would now be allowed to join HG there, who do we thank?
Would it be USHPA for expelling pilots that had to pursue other avenues to take flight?
If PG's should take over at Dockweiler it would be another consequence of USHPA's unjust expulsion.
There will probably be other consequences of Bob's expulsion. In particular, it will be difficult for any
government to require USHPA membership when it can be shown that USHPA expels members for testimony in court.
The USHPA Board didn't think this through very far did they?

The next post on this thread was put up then taken down by
BilleFly

It was up for a while but was removed on or before the day I updated this thread here at the Hawks.
I don't remember what I read, that BilleFly wrote, but it vaguely recall that it lacked a glowing
reference to Bob K.
But in all fairness to BilleFly since he took it down (Deleted), we should give him the benefit
of not having advanced any negativity for an appreciable amount of time during the history of the

Thanks very much for the "play by play" reporting of the Oz goings ons.

Dockweiler is in the most populated city in the US. It's arguably the most visible hang gliding site in the world. Freeing that site from USHPA control is a major breakthrough. Given the recent panic over USHPA losing their insurance, you'd think that everyone would welcome this achievement. But for the USHPA loyalists, it's not about saving hang gliding ... it's about saving USHPA.

About PG's at Dockweiler. the word is that they are not allowed. But there is some question as to whether that is an LA County rule or a Windsports (concessionaire) rule. Of course this question could be quickly answered by either entity.

But, from a practical standpoint, a PG could not soar since the lift band height is below where the canopy would be (as previously mentioned in this thread) and the bike path is too close behind for inflation of the canopy required to soar in the light lift of winds low enough to penetrate. Dockweiler is a 25' ridge. Maybe someone could share an instance of a PG soaring a ridge that low. I would definitely applaud that achievement.

The next time a Mexican hurricane reaches the LA coast we might be inundated with squirrel suit jumpers wanting to soar Dockweiler. :o Better bring their sand masks!
